Taylor to ESPN: I want to be known as actor more than NFLer

By Tim Graham | Monday, May 19, 2008, 02:32 AM

In an interview for its Sunday Conversation, ESPN asked Jason Taylor if, 10 years from now, he would rather be known for his football exploits or his acting career.

Taylor, who holds several Dolphins records and is the NFL’s reigning Walter Payton Man of the Year, suggested he’d rather make it in Hollywood than Canton, Ohio.

“Well, I hope more for acting,” Taylor said. “It’s strange that in our business, that in your mid-30s, you start thinking about retiring. It’s not like you’re getting put out to pasture and you’re done. A new chapter in your life has to start.

“In 10 years from now, when I’m 43 years old, I’m hoping that people are talking more about the things I’ve done in the film business than what I did in football or dancing.”

Taylor also offered an explanation as to why he shouldn’t apologize to anybody who wants to second guess his motivations for laying the groundwork for life after retirement even though he’s still playing.

“There comes a time when they open that door and they kick you in the (butt) and you’re not welcome anymore,” Taylor said. “Regardless of if you’re under contract or not, they will kick you out the door — we’ve all seen it over the years — and say ‘Thanks, but you’re not welcome anymore.’ “

Taylor also said “I can guarantee you this: I’m in five times better shape right now than I was the year I won defensive player of the year.”

This is a snipe at the new regime.  You can't blame him.

I stated in the other thread that you have to do what's best for you.

I don't blame Taylor. He's done everything that the Dolphins have asked him to do. he shows up every year and he can be a potential Hall Of Famer in an era where the Dolphins truly were in disarray. The two constants were him and Zach Thomas.

I love JT, but his personality really doesn't seem to be a great fit for acting. I mean...he doesn't really have much personality on camera unless he's plowing a QB into the turf, from what I've seen.

Then again...most of the Baldwin brothers don't have the personality to be actors either, so #99 will probably do just fine.

I kind of feel the same way.

Personally I wish they would find something else to write about other than Jason and Bill.  He wil be back soon and then we will see if they will work together. Other than that I don't really care to hear how Jason feels about whoever or how much of an arse Bill is.  I'm ready for some stinkin football!!!
