Report: Packers inquire about Taylor

By Tim Graham | Wednesday, June 18, 2008, 09:14 PM

The Green Bay Post-Gazette is reporting the Packers recently “made an exploratory inquiry” to the Dolphins about DE Jason Taylor’s availability.

“We don’t comment on rumors,” Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene said of the report.

The story explains the Packers are in need of pass-rush help with Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila coming back from knee surgery.

Packers defensive coordinator Bob Sanders and defensive assistant Robert Nunn know Taylor well because they were on the Dolphins’ staff under Dave Wannstedt.

“Anytime you can get a guy of that caliber, you’d want to try to get him,” Nunn said. “But I don’t get involved in anything like that.

“All I know is that when I coached him, he was a great football player and a great person. I hope it works out for him because he’s had such a great career, and I’d hate to see it end on a bad note in the public’s eye. The guy is such an outstanding individual and a great football player, and I just hope for the best for Jason and hope it ends well, and he’s able to compete for a Super Bowl.”

The article goes on to say Packers GM Ted Thompson might not be willing to meet the Dolphins’ asking price for Taylor. Thompson wasn’t willing to part with anything better than a fifth-round pick last year for WR Randy Moss.

Packers GM doing homework for possible Taylor trade

By Tim Graham | Thursday, June 19, 2008, 04:07 AM

Another report out of Wisconsin provides greater detail of the Packers’ interest in Dolphins DE Jason Taylor.

Former Palm Beach Post reporter Greg Bedard reports for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the Packers have maintained “cursory contact” with the Dolphins about the six-time Pro Bowler and GM Ted Thompson has been talking about Taylor with defensive assistants Bob Sanders and Robert Nunn.

Sanders and Nunn know Taylor well from their days on Dave Wannstedt’s staff.

The report, citing an unnamed source, said Thompson wouldn’t even consider acquiring Taylor without at least a two-year commitment.

Taylor previously said he would play only one more year and then retire. Those close to him, however, believe that’s only if he remains a Dolphin and that he would play in 2009 if he was with a Super Bowl contender.

Bedard, who stresses nothing is imminent and no serious talks have taken place, suggests in an accompanying blog that if Taylor would play beyond next season the Packers might agree to send a second-round pick to the Dolphins to make the trade.

Packers interested in Jason Taylor?

Guys, the latest rumors involving Dolphins estranged DE Jason Taylor are that the Green Bay Packers are very interested, but are reluctant since JT said he only wanted to play one more season.

The Dolphins never comment on rumors. We'll be checking this out today and keep you informed. Taylor played for a couple of Packers assistants when they were here working for Dave Wannstedt - DC Bob Sanders and DT coach Robert Nunn.

"Anytime you can get a guy of that caliber, you'd want to try to get him,'' Nunn said, according to the Milwaukee Press-Gazette. "All I know is when I coached him, he was a great football player and a great person. I hope it works out for him because he's had such a great career and I'd hate to see it end on a bad note in the public's eye ... and I just hope for the best for Jason and hope it ends well, and he's able to compete for a Super Bowl.''

Do you think Taylor would give the Packers the guarantee of a second season without the prospects of having Brett Favre as a teammate or playing in the frozen tundra far from Hollywood's casting directors?

If they're willing to part with a 2009 first round pick for JT, I'd snap it up in a heartbeat.

If that happens, let's root for the Pack to have a lousy season.

If all he gets back is a 3rd round pick, I would keep him. Besides, I don't think the Pack are going 13-3 again with Aaron Rodgers at QB. I don't think Rodgers is better than any of the 3 guys we have, and I am not happy about those guys either.

He's become a Prima Donna. He's got Hollywood in his eyes and not a FOOTBALL.

Zack said he WANTED to stay. Man I wish they never got rid of him. But Taylor? I'm getting sick of his shit. For his salary he needs to STFU , get into training camp and let what happens , happens.
