A co worker and I were talking this morning about how animals have their own personalities.  A third was debating that they're all "kind of the same."  By the way, the third is a bitter person with zero personality.

We have 2 cats, Link and Zelda.

Zelda is scared of EVERYTHING...the vacuum, an unbalanced wash cycle and thunder makes her scurry under the closest piece of furniture.  She also refuses any treats (human or feline) and loves ice cubes.

Link is like a dog.  He begs for attention, scratches at doors, always is begging at the table and his favorite snack is orange slices (the fruit, not the candy.)  So much so that when we are squeezing lemons or anything citrusy, he meows like we have never fed him.  He also will borrow a human finger and use it as a pacifier if you are patient enough to let him sleep in your lap and gnaw at your hand.

What weird things to your 4-legged-kids do?

Pets have sooooo much more personality than most humans, you just have to be paying attention to your pets to see it.

One of the two cats in my house is a fairly large black cat named "Fat Daddy," but I've come to call him "Rump Roast" for a number of sordid reasons that we won't go into up here. His favorite thing to do is lay flat out on his back with his forelegs stretched up over his head. He holds his little catnip ball just under his chin while I give his kitty armpits a vigorous scratching.

In our house, we have a big black and white tuxedo cat named Moose.  He likes to snack on Froot Loops, chips, beef jerkey, ice cream etc.  Moose loves to look out the front door.....which sometimes fogs up, so moose learned to stand on his back 2 paws and wipe the window clear with his front 2 paws.  It looks really funny when he does this.  His favorite toy is the plastic thing around the top of a gallon of milk....he chases that all around the house.

One of my Dog in the winter crawls uner the covers...When he's cold....

He's also jealous of the Telephone..He barks, and chases you around the house if You're talking on the telephone..Ie Trying to do Fins radio....

But if you pick up the phone and act like you're talking on..he could care less....

He's also a pain in the ass,He will bark until you open the door, then when he's done..he'll bark at the door till you let him back in the house....

His favorite Toy,was my other dog's metal Food bowl...and thought play time was between 2 am -3:30 am....

He's a black dog looks all big an bad..till there is a fly in the house, and FREAKS out...Typically runs and hides....

Did I mention if I don't lock the deadbolt on the friont door,he'll turn the door knob and let himself out?

My little chow mix is the mastermind, and my big dog's is the enforcer....She'll tell him...Go beg the humans to feed us....Go beg the humans to open the door....

there is alot more but that's it right now off the top of my head

I have three furry kids.

2 dogs (Joey and Jenny) and 1 cat (Mama Cat.)

Mama Cat is the oldest one at around (she was a rescue so we're not too sure) 7 years old.  She is super friendly and almost dog-like in the sense that she greets strangers and is constantly looking for love.  She hates other animals though, including her dog brother and sister.  She acts like the teenage daughter who is too cool to hang with her parents and is constantly annoyed by the younger siblings.  She even ran away for 1 night (teen runaway).  She owns the other two by smacking them with no hesitation when they get too irritating.

Joey is the older dog only by 3 months.  He's only 9 months but he's the smart one.  He's a little chunky for his breed so he's the nerdy chubby one.

Jenny is the cute little one.  She's 6 months old.  She's not the brightest but she gets by on looks alone.  The social butterfly if you will.  Extremely friendly and sweet she's the popular one at the dog parks.

I don't know if you guys have heard of dogster but its like a myspace for your mutts.  Ms. Guru created pages for all of them so here are their pics.

I have to say those pics don't really represent Joey too well.  He doesn't have that awful haircut this asshole gave him.  He looks like his main picture and the one by the can.  Incidentally, that can is not normal sized.  Its a massive one I bought at Costco.  People really thought he was that small but in that pic he was already weighing a good 18 pounds.

My little guys have so much personality, 'stroke is right, you have to pay attention and you'll eventually see their different traits.

My cats:

Osirus - The friendly one, once he feels you out and sees that you're cool, he's your buddy. He's always in need of company, even if he's not in the mood to play, he just wants you to chill with him.

Apollo - My little tubby one. Scared of everyone he doesn't know. You'll never see him when company is around. When it's clear, he's the sweetest, calmest little cat on earth.

Ares - The tough independent one. Takes advantage of everything, playful as hell and the one that wants to be part of everything that's going on. Hates to be picked up, but he'll sleep next to ya every night.

O My can I please please please have this dog lol! She is so adorable! I want to buy a dog and don't know which kind to get- does she have a brother?  Smiley

My dog's name is Winston- he has plenty of personality.

When I get home he runs 20 laps around my house at highest speed

If you yell at him he "talks back"

If wants to sit somewhere and there is something in his way he complains

And when I moved here (without him) he shit in my bedroom because he was mad at me. My dog is def. trained. He doesn't go to the bathroom in the house. And when my parents drove down here and visited me they left him at my grandparents- he was mad again so he shit there. Ugh grandma was not happy...

There are many professionals who say animals do not have personalities, they are the pro's. I have three birds, and a dog. Parts of me believe my parrot and my dog do have a personality, but that might be me just thinking that, at the end of the day the dog is a dog and the bird is a bird. I love having these pets, and watching Animal planet, and I really like watching The Dog Whisperer on National Geographic channel. I have used techniques from the Dog Whisperer and also obedience class where my dog would be well balanced. I feel she has a wonderful personality, like when she carries her own leash, or when she digs a small ice cream from the local shop. She walks with a proud trot in a heal position without a leash, she is a wonderful dog, and guess what she is a miniature poodle we adopted from a dog pound, she was a puppy mill dog.

What pro's?  Have you seen chimps?  They have different temperaments and even social ranks.  Even octopuses have been found to have personalities.

She does.  We got her from a friend of a friend for free.  Her only brother Henry, (all females except for one) belongs to Ms. Guru's friend.

I don't think Pets have as much personality as a lot of people think they do.  Sure, they have personalities, but a lot of the time, people try to put complex human traits towards animals -- mischief, love, etc.  I'm not so sure that animals have those emotions.

I have a little Italian Greyhound name Giovanni. Gio for short. I think he has tons of personality. I love it when he starts running laps around the house. It's hilarious. He also does this little crying begging thing that  cracks my shit up.

Mischief isn't an emotion though. It is an action. I do agree about pets and emotions. Does anyone else remember how the following quote goes or who said it? It was something like, "No matter how much you think your cats love you if you die and they are hungry, they will eat you."

Hey Phish... I like you quite a bit, but if I'm hungry, trapped, and you're the only food on the menu, I'm gonna eat you as well.
