In my humble opinion, everything about the 2008 Summer Games was head and shoulders above any other winter or summer Olympics that I've ever watched.

The opening ceremony was amazing.  The closing ceremony was very good.  The one part that stunk was the portion that London put together.  Who gives a crap about Leonna Lewis and Jimmy Page?

What China did with these games might not even be topped.  The games themselves were really great.  I found myself watching things I would never watch before and I couldn't get enough.

I am very much looking forward to the winter Olympics, normally my favorite. But WOW -- I'm going to miss these 2008 summer Olympics.

Amazing.

In 4 years, no one will remember who Leona Lewis is.  Where the hell was Elton John?  They should have got him.

I don't even understand why it has to be someone of pop culture sense.

London is hosting the games and all they can come up with, in all of their culture, history and appeal are pop culture icons?

TDMMC isn't exactly a great sounding board to judge something like that.

An average of 29 million tuned in every day for the 17 days in the U.S.  That's 493 million total viewers in this country.  The 1st four days of the games had 16% higher viewership than the last summer games.  They averaged a 30 share.  A 30 share -- in the summer.  Unreal.

I would say people care!

I heard on tv that these Olympics were the highest rated ever in the US and in China.

That was my point through extreme sarcasm.

Exactly!China's opening and closing ceremonies were incredible and done with absolute class, grace, and beauty. My wife and I were just glued to our tv waiting to see what was next.Unfortunately,it was London's offering of an aging Jimmy Paige and some skank butchering an old Led Zeppelin song along with Beckham kicking a soccer ball into the crowd......heck,where was Posh Spice?Even the mayor of London was undignified looking with his blazer unbuttoned, hands in his pockets, and those horrible chicklets when he smiled(apparently the city of London does not have a dental plan)Thank goodness they have 4 years to come up with something to open their games.

I probably won't because I don't even know who she is now.

My wife said the same thing.  He looked as out of place as a hooker at the opera.

Regarding the opening ceremony, when did lip synching enter the realm of absolute class, grace, and beauty?  Since Germany isn't scheduled to host an Olympics anytime soon, perhaps London can open with Fab Morvan?

The fireworks shown on TV were not live.  They were pre-recorded and played on television to appear as if they were in time with the opening ceremonies.  But, at the actual stadium, there weren't fireworks.
