Along with Dave and others, I forgot that I did get sex ed in school. I think it was around middle school.

I think in 5th grade we watched a baby chick hatch from an egg.  In 6th grade they started talking about humans.

Am I the only one that learned the ways from porn!? No talk with mom or sex ed, that I can remember, but the sex scenes in 80s movies were awesome!  Grin

You scored a college girl at age 13.  Way to go man.

LOL...nah, she was older (15), but not "that" old. Our community college had open swimming pool hours for the local kids during the summer, and she was visiting her grandparents from down in the valley (phoenix). The greenhouse was right behind the pool, so it was a matter of convenience.

I bloomed really early and natural girl things happened before I had "the talk" which forced my mom to have "the talk" with me.  It was VERY uncomfortable at the time, but she was really open and honest so that was good.  My Dad tried to have the talk with me while watching a sox game and he said "Katie there's birds and bees." and I said "I know Daddy." and he said "good, I'm glad we talked."  That was about it.

I got the talk in increments, but never the whole sit-down.  Over the course of a few months, I guess, I got the whole story.

I think my mom did the talk early because girlie things were happening early.

Dad? Talk? HA HA HA that'd be the day

I am trying to figure out when I should have this talk with my kids.

Probably the sooner the better.

The sex education movement began by an English Bishop after he eulogized a girl who had committed suicide.

We know from her suicide note that the reason she took her own life was she was convinced she was dying from a dreadful disease.  She was in pain and bleeding internally.  The reason she knew she was bleeding in internally is because  for two days blood had been coming out of her vagina.

The changes a child's body goes thru as they become an adult are pretty scary if you know what is happening.  If you don't know what is happening they can freak out someone particularly girls.

As a father I'd just like to say that this is not a talk I'm looking forward to having with my child(ren).

I am trying to figure out when I should have this talk with my kids.

Towards the beginning of 5th grade, my wife took a day off of work to spend with my girls.  She had the talk during lunch at a park.  They had lots of questions but she didn't over answer them ... if you know what I mean.  She gave them the basic outline and let them lead from there.  Now they are open to asking more questions in an open environment and we answer them. Some things about cycles and stuff I do have to defer but it has actually has worked out prety well.

^ That is great that you and your wife keep an open line with your girls.  Mr. StL and I hope to do the same.

My Mom never brought it up, and my Dad tried to bring it up in the car on the way home from school one day.  I don't exactly remember how or what triggered that conversation.  By that time though, I pretty much knew everything I had to know, so it was a pretty short conversation.

That's exactly how I hope to handle things, CF.
