If they made it available to everyone, they would get less money per carrier, but they'd be getting it from multiple carriers instead of just one, which would more than make up for it.

If licensing the broadcast rights to a single provider is really more lucrative than offering it to multiple providers, why isn't the NFL Network a single-provider option, too?

This is exactly what I'm talking about.  There are a ton of football fans out there who would love to have NFL Sunday Ticket, but are at the mercy of their cable company because they live in condos and can't have satellite dishes.  All major cable carriers offer other premium sports packages such as NBA Courtside, MLB Extra Innings, and ESPN College GamePlan.  Why does the NFL have to be different??

Money! why else?

And that's where your assumptions are wrong...The NFL network was offered to the big Cable companies, they wanted to charge extra for it,and make it a premium channel, and complained about the Price. They said it was too expensive,to put on Basic Cable it would raise the rates too much....

The NFL sunday ticket would lose value,By your a standard..Why doesn't PBS carry NFL games? TBS? TNT? The parent Companies Pay through the nose to get it for Fox,CBS NBC,and ESPN....All those other packages extra packages are less...MLB extra innings Less than $200,College Gameplan $129,NBA League Pass $169,Hockey package about $160....NFL Sunday ticket I think I paid $249? I got some loyalty discount thing) Hmm I wonder why? Ohh yeah they're value is lower You can get them through the Cable company...Interesting there are a bunch of canadian Cable companies that get NFL sunday ticket....Plus the Caymans,Bahamas,Mexico, and Bermuda...

http://www.nfl.com/promotions/directv/sundayticket

Ok now you're going to claim, well then it's cheaper, and available to more households, and more people could afford to buy it....It cheapens it...It's now nearly in demand....The Supply went way up the price went down...

The people in the Condo's can cry me a river....

Great Clip Run, I remember seeing that on SNL when it was first run...I think they came up wityh that back in their SC.T.V. days...Thanks for the laugh...

OK, but if you paid $249 for NFL Sunday Ticket and $129 for ESPN College Gameplan..... imagine if you dropped the price of NFL Sunday Ticket to $129, but made it available to Dish Network and major cable companies..... so many more people would be able to afford it and they would buy it.  That would more than make up for the lowering of the price of NFL Sunday Ticket.

It's the Same reason why reason, why I don't fork over Money for the MLB package..I'm a Cubs Fan...I get 71 (games) through WGN,and ESPN,TBS will add ten the Local station on Fox will throw in another 5 or so...Then when they Play the Cardinals Fox sports Midwest will show me another 6 to 8..I get to see about 100 games. Why should I pay extra fro something I'm already paying for? The MLB package has little value to me......Without NFL sunday ticket..I get to see maybe 1 or 2 Dolphins Games a year....NFL Sundayticket Has Value...It's worth more..Simple economics 101...

Modified to Add...(I just got a reminder of this) The NFL Get's it money from the NFL sunday ticket from one Company Direct T.V....If they offer it to Cable, they have to Negotiate with each and every little Cable company to get their money...

For those outside North America, the NFL offer a new "streaming HD" package for $240. You get every single game and access to all of them at any time during the season (DVR-style). There's a non-HD version available through Yahoo! for $210 with some additional limitations (no DVR-style control when watching a game and only 48 hours access to games played).

You're killing me!

If you showed up at my door in Dolphins gear, I would not slam it in your face.  Mr StL probably wouldn't be happy with more Dolfans in his house, though.  Grin

Cable companies have been trying for years to get in on the Sunday ticket deal.
I remember when I first dropped cable for Direct TV the cable company would call and offer me deals, then even said they believe they will get the Sunday ticket also.
But here we are eight years later and Direct TV still owns all the rights to the Sunday Ticket. It's called a monopoly my friends, the NFL can and does control who can see what game. I actually believe Tommy is onto something, but what if congress stepped in(within their legal rights)and forced the strangle hold the NFL has on distributing games. What if cable companies would carry the games on ppv?
What if you could chose to watch your team for like $10 per game ? I too would like to see the Sunday ticket or ppv more available .
Negotiations could be simple the NFL gets a percentage on sales that each cable company distributes on ppv.

You really think ppv would only be like $10 a game?  A local college game is $30.  I think I would end up paying more that way then I do on Sunday Ticket.  Besides, with all the games available, you can always find an exciting one to watch.

I just go to a sports bar when the phins games aren't on...even though it's kindof overwhelming watching all the games at once.

Are you telling me they charge $30 for one game played on PPV?
I would say that's way too much to pay for one college game.

Yes, they are charging $30 for one college game.  It is way too much, which is why I will not be watching it.  If people don't pay for it, they will go back to regular tv.

Yep, that's how much it is.  People who have DirecTV but don't have NFL Sunday Ticket pay like $39.99 per game.  They can order it right off their TV set.

And you're right Simeon.  Congress could, and should step in and break all TV monopolies.  That way someone who lives in a certain area could have a choice of cable companies.

Tommy- you misunderstood STL. You can't buy NFL games on a PPV basis. She was talking about college games.
