Statistically speaking: Key stats from Dolphins' win
South Florida Sun-Sentinel
2:55 PM EDT, September 22, 2008

The 38 points scored by the Dolphins were their most in a game since November 27, 2003 when they recorded a 40-21 victory over the Cowboys in Dallas.

The Dolphins' 25-point margin of victory was their largest since November 24, 2002 when they registered a 30-3 victory over San Diego in South Florida.

The 461 total net yards amassed by the Dolphins were their most in a game since October 10, 1999 when they tallied 469 yards in a 34-31 win over the Colts in Indianapolis.

The 216 net rushing yards by the Dolphins were their most in a game since December 29, 2002 when they accumulated 256 yards rushing in a 27-24 overtime loss to the Patriots in New England.

The Dolphins did not commit a turnover for the second week in a row. Over the first three games, they now have committed just one turnover, their fewest-ever over the first three games of a season.

RB Ronnie Brown started for the first time since October 21 of last year against New England, the same day he sustained a season-ending knee injury.

Ronnie Brown rushed for 113 yards and four TDs on 17 carries, the 11th 100-yard rushing game of his career. His total moved him past Mercury Morris into sole possession of third on the Dolphins' all-time list for 100-yard rushing games.

Ronnie Brown's four rushing touchdowns established a Dolphins single-game record, breaking the old mark of three, which had been achieved 14 previous times in the regular season and 15 overall, including playoffs, by nine different players, most recently on November 23, 1997 when Karim Abdul-Jabbar scored on three 1-yard runs against the Patriots at Foxboro Stadium.

The four total touchdowns by Ronnie Brown tied a team record also achieved by Paul Warfield and Mark Ingram. Warfield did it on December 15, 1973 against Detroit while Ingram achieved the feat on November 27, 1994 at the New York Jets. All of Warfield's and Ingram's touchdowns were receiving scores.

Ronnie Brown now has five rushing touchdowns on the year and 18 in his career, as today he moved past Bernie Parmalee (15) and Tony Nathan (16) into 10th on the Dolphins' all-time list for rushing touchdowns.

The 19-yard touchdown pass from Ronnie Brown to Anthony Fasano marked the first completion of Brown's career and was the first by a non-quarterback in Dolphins history since October 24, 2004, when wide receiver Marty Booker had a 48-yard completion to Chris Chambers against St. Louis. The touchdown pass by Brown was the first by a non-quarterback in Dolphins history since September 10, 1995 when Terry Kirby connected with Irving Fryar for a 31-yard TD at New England.

The 98 yards rushing by RB Ricky Williams were his most in an NFL game since the final week of the 2005 season, when he ran for 108 yards and a TD on 28 carries on January 1, 2006 against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium.

QB Chad Pennington completed 11 consecutive passes in the first half, the longest such streak by a Dolphin since Dan Marino connected on 14 passes in a row over a two-game period, from November 17, 1996 (at Houston) through November 25, 1996 (vs. Pittsburgh). It's the longest by a Dolphin in the same game since November 10, 1996 when Marino completed 13 straight passes against Indianapolis.

Chad Pennington completed 17 of 20 passes, and his completion percentage of 85.0% was the highest of his career, surpassing his previous best of 82.8%, which he attained on October, 20, 2002 against Minnesota when he was 24 of 29.

Chad Pennington's 85.0 percent completion mark is the second-best in franchise history (min. 12 completions), trailing only the 92.3 percent mark by Bob Griese (12 of 13) on December 18, 1978 against New England at the Orange Bowl.

LB Joey Porter posted three sacks, the sixth time in his career that he has had three or more sacks in a game and the first since December 24, 2005 against the Browns in the Cleveland. Porter is the first Dolphin to have three sacks in a game since Jason Taylor had three on December 18, 2005 against the New York Jets.

The sack by rookie DE Phillip Merling was the first of his NFL career.

The interception by DE Randy Starks was the first of his five-year NFL career. It also was the first by a Dolphins defensive lineman since Jason Taylor intercepted a Matt Cassel pass against New England on October 21 of last year against New England and returned it 36 yards for a touchdown.

Phillip Merling and Kendall Langford are going to be our bookend DE's for the next 5-10 years.  Bank on it.

Randy Starks is starting to look like a good FA acquisition as well.
