When Ronnie had that clear path to the goal line on his TD run.....

He should have crossed the first down marker and gone down just short of it.

The Texans would have had to call another TO.  They would have had 1 left.

We could have killed most of the remaining time with kneels and then brought out Carpenter for the victory

You're right...he should have went down after the first down was made...but Westbrook is the only person in the NFL i've ever seen do that so it's not like I expected Ronnie to do the same

Assuming they called their first TO after that play, then ...

1st & goal with 1:51 remaining - Pennington takes a knee - Houton TO #2
2nd & goal with 1:45 ? remaining - another knee - Houston TO #3
3rd & goal with 1:40 remaining - another knee - 45 seconds run off
4th and goal with :55 remaing - field goal with :50 left.

They'd have 50 seconds to drive 40-50 yards for a field goal.  I'm not sure they wouldn't have pulled it out.

Are you trying to win or are you trying not to lose.  What they did was try to win.  The defense could not get the job done.  If you can score, then you score.  You don't leave points on the field.

As I pointed out in another thread, the Eagles were winning when Westbrook did it. You can never assume points.

RTW, you got the time wrong

If Ronnie took the ball at the one, they would have used their SECOND TO

Giving them one.  We could have killed the rest of the clock

^^^ RTW has it right. He has them taking a TO after first down which they did. Pennington taking a knee & TO #2 in RTW scenario would have been the play Ronnie scored on.

Actually, he is wrong

at least according the NFL.coms play by play:

1:57  R. Brown left end for six yards
Timeout #1 by Houston

Ronnie scored the next play.  If he had fallen to the ground at the one, Houston would have to take their second timeout.

We would have had first down at the 1 or 2 with Houston having one TO left.

Kneel (Hou Calls final TO)

We have two plays with which we can kneel and Houston cannot stop the clock.  That's at at least 1:20 we can kill right there.

Houston would have had less than 25 seconds (and this is being generous) to get in FG range with no TOs

Could we at least pound it and not just kneel?
