What is up with our receivers??

Greg Camarillo-  The only consistent receiver on this team, but he probably wouldn't make a team like the Dallas Cowboys or Indianapolis Colts due to his size and lack of pedigree.

Ted Ginn- Despite his speed, he is not getting separation, runs bad routes, and is afraid of getting hit. 

Brandon London- Strictly special teams. 

Earnest Wilford and Derek Hagan-  Can't even get on the field at this point.   

For all the good QB play Chad Pennington has been providing, he's basically been going to Camarillo or the tight ends.  Even with Camoron, Saban, or Wanny, things weren't this bad with our receiving corps.

I agree, but the way I see it, at the end of last year, NOTHING on the team was working. 

Now we have a functional o line and d line, good play from the linebackers and offensive backfield, Pennington looks as good as he ever has, despite, as you say, the faulty receiving corps. 

At the is point the glaring weak spots are the receivers and defensive back.  There is little to no talent on either squad.  Even still they are playing above their talent level (not saying they look good, but mediocre play from zero talent = playing about ability).

I say for four games in from 1-15, the team is looking solid.  There is less to work on than I thought there would be.  Imo, a quality corner, a quality safety, and a quality #1 receiver, and all else the same, and this team it looking good.

I really, really wish broadcasters would show us more of the field and not just zoom in tight on the quarterback as he drops back. Most plays, you don't even get to see EITHER wideout. Forget about actually seeing route-running.

With all this digital crap, you'd think they'd allow viewers some choice. I'd love to see some all-22 footage. I'm not saying I would watch the game that way - I'd just love being able to switch to it once in a while (and replay it with a DVR).

Very hard to evaluate the receivers without watching what they are doing.  However, one clue that they are getting some good things done is that the safety has rarely been around our tight ends.  I figure that the potential of Ginn being a deep threat does draw some coverage his way.  Although, Pennington's arm strength hasn't been as bad as I expected, I can definately see how Ginn would benefit from an arm like Henne's. 

I really think that Wilford should be out there if at all possible.  He is such a big receiver.  Even if he drops a few (hopefully only a few) he still gives the QB a good target and helps widen the field.  I realize that the coaches get to see these guys in practice and must be seeing something they don't like, but I just don't see Bess doing that great right now.  This isn't a nock on Bess necessarily, but he is a rookie receiver and normally their play gets limited a little more than I have seen to this point.  Maybe Wilford and Camarillo on the edges with Ginn in the slot would be a nice mix in at this point.

Lastly, someone has to work with Ginn on sheding the first tackle a little more.  I know that alot of it is instinctual, but I don't even see an effort.  This is evident at WR and kick return.  Someone has to get through to this guy.

Miami should just run formations with 2 tight ends and tackle eligible every play. Don't even bother with wide outs.

Do you have a special Ginn-cam where you see him on every play?  Cause the TV sure doesn't show it.  Are you inside his head?  Have you engaged him in a full psychological discussion where you determined he has a fear of contact?

Stop basing your discussions on pure blind hatred, Tommy.  Its affecting your credibility.  He went out of bounds one time on one play and suddenly, you speak as though its a commonly-known fact that he's afraid to get hit.

I noticed the same thing during the Chargers' game that I went to.  Often, Ginn is a decoy, taking a corner or a safety down the field.  Ginn has been open deep a lot but think about this year and how many times Pennington has even thrown the deep ball...

According to ESPN, Pennington has thrown the ball more than 20 yards (in the air) a total of 9 times this season. 3 were complete (1 td), 1 intercepted.

Beyond 30 he's 1 of 3 (1 td, 0 int).

My problem isn't so much that he CANNOT throw 30 yards. He can. It's just that he needs to throw it way too high, severely limiting the types of long throws he can make (i.e. long, soft "bomb").

I don't think any starting quarterback has fewer long pass attempts than Pennington (even including the past few years).

to clarify -

When i said "deep ball" i meant 40+.  The streaking receiver down the sideline kind of deep (which requires some level of accuracy), not the wildcat-Patrick-Cobbs-all-alone kind of deep

Alot of his teamates don't trust him. That says alot right there. $14 million track star that has no reason to be in the NFL.
