Yeah the same Jimmy Johnson, that thought Kareem Abdul Jabbar,J.J. Johnson, and Cecil Collins were the Answer at running back....
Collins was a 1st-2nd round talent that we got for a 5th round draft pick.  He was a talented guy who couldn't stay out of trouble.  Compared to Curtis Enis, Lawrence Phillips, Kijana Carter, etc, etc, etc, etc - he was a bargain.

Karim Abdul (Or Karim Abdul-Jabbar if you want to risk getting sued) proved that rushing the ball is as much a team attitude as it is talent.  Shula/Marino had several RBs with considerably more talent, yet KAJ was the one who averaged nearly 1,000 yards over 3 seasons.  Then he got cut by the expansion Cleveland Browns.

JJ Johnson ... even a diamond miner finds a piece of crap not so talented player once in a while.

Collins only played 8 games, starting 6...I was a bigger fan of Terry Kirby, who Jimmy cut loose...Oops forgot to add Mcphail,John Avery, and Denson in that group of misfits
Yeah, I know all this, and this has what to do with Hagan? Roll Eyes

What does Collins only playing in 8 games and then getting in trouble and getting cut have to do with his talent?

I was a fan of Kirby until his knee injury.  He became a big back who no longer liked to lower his shoulder and run with power, and he was elusive enough to be effective.  Wasn't he mainly a 3rd down back the rest of his career?

Wasn't McPhail also mainly a pass catcher out of the backfield, but not as big and with more speed?

I was a big fan of Bernie Parmalee, Troy Stradford and Mark Higgs.

I think Crowder said it best:

I was upset," Crowder said. "But if they wanted me upstairs they'd give me an office.

 Wink

They know what they are doing. If your not giving 100% but a subpar player is.......guess who Parcells is going to want around?

So why is Wilford still on the roster?

imo, Wilford will not be on the roster once Brandon London gets a little more playing time at WR....London will be Miami's big receiver (6"4), and he also contributes on special teams.

Don't count on him being on the roster come training camp next year.... and that's at the latest.

Training camp next year? The guy has one catch for 15 yards. His ass should be unemployed NOW.

I said, that's at the LATEST.  I doubt he even makes it that far in a Dolphins uniform.  You're right, his ass should be unemployed now.

Since he has a lot of guaranteed money and "only" a $1M base salary, cutting him wouldn't save much. Therefore, it makes sense to wait until you actually have someone you want to replace him with.

Then there's the injury factor. Right now, we only have 5 receivers on the active squad. Add Parmele from the practice squad and it's still pretty thin. Basically, we can't cut Wilford until we find another receiver.

Don't look for under-achieving,big ego wideouts on any Bill Parcells team. The Tuna doesn't work like that.Look back at his Giants team that won the super bowl and you'll see he won with a hard pounding running game,a good tight end,and workman like receivers in McConkey and Manuel. His dislike of Terry Glenn in New England was classic. With the emergence of Anthony Fasano any WR on the Phins roster should be trying to make himself better at blocking downfield and making those clutch grabs or they will be gone.

I don't understand why people are so quick to defend Wilford based on his contract. So what if he had a big bonus? So now we should throw good money away after bad and continue to pay him? The guy has done nothing. He is a MAJOR BUST. Cut him and prove that you mean business, and won't keep a guy around just because he had a big signing bonus. I would almost guarantee you that Hagan had a cheaper salary, yet he was cut for not producing.

Landlocked points out that Parcells doesn't want underachievers. Yet there is a WR who made $6 Million for ONE CATCH!
