Miami Dolphins release WR Derek Hagan

  Per Adam Schefter of NFL Network.  That only leaves CB Jason Allen and DE Rodrique Wright from Nick's 2006 Draft Class.

Has this been confirmed? If indeed true, this is no loss for the dolphins. Hagan was a fine player at Arizona State who set all kinds of PAC-10 records, but problems showed up at the NFL combine with bad hands. He's always been a big disappointment in the pros, and never shown he can be an NFL level wideout.

He'll probably get picked up by someone, or show up at a training camp or two, but it looks like the end of the road for another busted pick.

Oh well, at least Jason Allen is showing signs of life.

Despite his great career at Arizona State, Hagan had a poor showing during the Senior Bowl practices by dropping passes, which many predicted would damage his stock in the upcoming draft. He ran a 4.42 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. He was drafted in the third round (82nd overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. His draft preparation with IMG was chronicled in the film Two Days in April.

Hagan spent the majority of the his rookie season in 2006 as the Dolphins' fourth receiver behind starters Chris Chambers and Marty Booker and slot receiver Wes Welker. His problems with dropped passes continued throughout much of the season, and he failed to distinguish himself as a legitimate receiving threat. These drops, combined with the struggles of the Miami Dolphins offense as a whole, resulted in a largely uneventful rookie campaign for Hagan.

Looks like it's for real...I'm glad to see this hard nosed approach to upgrading the team's talent level and getting rid of flotsam and jetsam. I only wish we could pick up WR Michael Crabtree out of Texas Tech in the draft next year, but I think he'll be long gone by the time the Dolphins get to pick in round one. Which is not a bad thing.

The Dolphins had high hopes for wide receiver Derek Hagan when they selected him with the No. 82 pick of the 2006 draft.

But Hagan never lived up to expectations, failing to even earn a spot on the 45-man active roster in four of the past five games.

Today, the Dolphins released him, an NFL source confirmed.

Hagan, 24, leaves the Dolphins with just 53 catches, three touchdowns and one start in 2 1/2 seasons

I wouldn't call him a cancer, but he does need to change his off-field habits.  According to ethurst, he was responsible for the fight that led to the death of Darrient Williams.

Things like this,make me more,and more suspect of Camp reports....All the Camp reports talked about how Great Hagan looked this year...Now He's gone half way through the season....

Camp reports are BS.   I remember JJ telling us that Kirby Dar Dar would be the starting Wr if the season started at that point.

Dar Dar was cut prior to the start of the season.

I disagree...They give you a look into practice that you don't get during the regular season....They talked about Wilford Dropping Passes,in camp,He then dropped passes in the preseason...And inevitably he's not playing....

Yeah the same Jimmy Johnson,that thought Kareem Abdul Jabbar,J.J. Johnson,and Cecil Collins were the Answer at running back....

Either way I'm happy Hagan was gone,I didn't have alot of faith in him to begin with.
