Music is something near and dear to me. I was as Pro amateur musician back in the 80's in the NYC tri state area.  Played clubs up and down the Jersey Shore, Brooklyn and Staten Island. Now its just a fun pastime and a way to blow off stress. I try to interject my Passion here a few times to give us a little something different to talk about but I'm starting to get the idea I'm wasting my time? Can we get a general Idea of what kind of music you all dig and why? This is not a thread to put anything down please. Let it be (no pun intended) Paul McCartney or Kayne West.........what kind of music do you all enjoy?

My faves are :

#1 Allman Brothers band, SRV, Clapton,George Benson, The 3 Kings, BB King, Freddie king and Albert King, ZZ Top,Johnny Winter, Van Halen, Gov't Mule, Black Label Society, Iron Maiden, RUSH, Prince, and basically anything with some great Guitar in it.................

My favorite band of all time is the Beatles.

But, I also really like 70s Motown stuff -- Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5
I like 90s alternative. -- Pearl Jam, Sound Garden
More recently, I'm into Ben Folds, Elliot Smith, John Mayer, etc.
I also really like what I guess you'd consider Lounge -- Dean Martin, Sinatra, etc.

One of my Fav new albums is John Mayers Continuum, and the Beatles? Probably the best songwriters the world has ever known in Pop Music. Let it Be is a Masterpiece.

And there is a special place in my heart for dean Martin and Sinatra. I had this neighbor growing up in Staten Island.  Gasper.  He was really old school Brooklyn Italian. He was a Big Hairy Garbage man with Tattoos. This guy always had the nicest cars. Big Caddy's, Pontiac's and Oldsmobile's. Black. Always black with a Red interior. Big Horn on the rear view mirror.  As a kid I would always see him polishing his car and listening to Frank and Dean. We would have block parties and Dean and frank were played continiously. That's another thing I love about music. Its different for everyone but it usually can take you back to a different time and place in your life instantly.

80's glam rock and metal bands, not much in the 90s, and a handful of bands in the 00s.

I also like classic rock, but most of it has been played to death by classic rock stations, so I avoid it. Meatloaf is my favorite classic rock artist.

I also like classical and jazz alot.

I can tolerate country, and some pop. I hate rap.

I admit I'm not proud of it either..........But Kid Rock is the only guy I know that has had Top ten hits on all 4, rock, metal, country and hip hop charts. Guy is doing something right.  Wink

I'm a big fan of smooth jazz.

Chris Bottie, Najie, Kenny G, The Rippingtons, Peter White, and Marc Antonie are some of my favorite instrumentalists.

As for vocals, I enjoy listening to Diana Krall, Marilyn Scott, and Al Jarreau among others.

Classic rock
90s Alternative
Classical Music
Favorite though is Electronic Music (mostly house) - anything from light, deep, lounge, chill-out stuff (i.e Kruder & Dorfmeister) to banging club tracks/sets. Its very diverse and there is a substyle for every mood.

My tastes are pretty damned eclectic.... I like Pink Floyd and the Beatles, but I also like Mozart and Prokofiev. I like Metallica and I like Billie Holiday. I dig on Johnny Cash, and also love rocking to the Dead Milkmen. CDs from REM, Chalk Farm, Dandy Warhols, Porno for Pyros, Garth Brooks, Alice Cooper and Perry Como are all on the play list.

Hard to tell when you are joking and when your not ........... Grin

But I LOVE Cher.  Believe is one of my Favorite Jogging tunes.  She has made top ten hits in every decade including the 1960's, 70's 80's 90's and the new milenia. God I bet she was amazing when Ritchie Sambora banged her back in the 1980's............. Roll Eyes

I will often put the weather channel on in my bedroom when I want to take a nap becuase they play great Light Jazz. I tend to listen more to the Guitar orientated stuff like Kenny Burrell and George Benson  then the Vocals but its all good.
