Unfortunately, this has turned into the "loveable cubbies" of the NFL. They get absolutely trounced at home, shattering their hopes of the playoffs, but there is still cause for celebration because the last undefeated team bit the bullet (And it doesn't really even mean much anymore - the Pats went 16-0 last season and went 18-0...so they have shown that it is actually possible for a team to pull it off...there's no more mystique about it any longer).

35 years and counting without a Super Bowl. It's really about time for the fan-base (and the organization who purposely promotes this type of nonsense) to develop their own legacies and stories. I wonder if the 1938 Chicago Bears* celebrate their 11-0 undefeated season anytime the last undefeated team loses.

*Yes, a team actually went the full season undefeated, long before the Dolphins ever existed. No, I don't know if 1938 is the actual season, look it up. And no, I don't care for the "but it's only 11 games" argument. It was only 14 regular season games in 1972.

The 1938 Chicago Bears did not win the NFL Championship.  Neither did the 2007 New England Patriots.

I wasn't alive in 72, but I do feel some team pride, every time the last team loses.  I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

Nothing, but the whole popping champaigne over it is tiring to hear about every season.

as a fan of the modern day Dolphins, I can say that I CANT WAIT until that stupid record is broken.

For the love of god, its like Al Bundy talking about his high school football days...

IT would be cool, however, if the dolphins one day break the record Grin

I didn't want it to be the Patriots, but I would not have minded if the Titans did it.  After last season, I am over the "perfect season" thing.

Same here. Knowing that one team went undefeated in a 16 game regular season,  it just lost its mystique somewhat.

Except for that whole "winning the championship" thing.  But who cares about that, right?

Do you also not care about the "um, they lost in the playoffs" argument?  Because that also applies to that particular Chicago team.

The 1972 Dolphins are the sole undefeated championship team in American professional sports history.  That's why it's a big deal.

jtex,

i disagree with you, there is plenty of mystique left about going undefeated..........why? because after 36 yrs, still nobody has done it! sure  the pats came close (after 35 yrs) but almost doesnt count, except in horseshoes and hand grenades. its a damn hard thing to do in the nfl, and its something to be proud of, just like the run of the giants last year. in 30 yrs from now, you will still be talking proudly about your super bowl upset . will you still feel pride after people tell you to get over it and move on? of course you will . it was monumental. something to be proud of. so dont knock us for holding onto something  that is dear to us , and monumental as well  (no matter when it happpened) and that is a sense of pride. win or lose, its a remarkable thing to be proud of. and if people are tired of hearing it, go back to your hometown team's boards and post there.

Dolphantom, meet Jtex, the board's resident ranter and biggest Dolphins hater.  Under any other circumstances, Jtex would be labelled a troll.  However, he happens to be the brother of one of our global mods.   Therefore, he is tolerated.

Perhaps for the Dolphins to make it back to their former glory, someone needs to knock the '72 Phins off the top of the mountain.

Oh, believe me.  Jtex's famous rants sometimes are good for discussion, sometimes good for a laugh, and sometimes good for nothing but being annoying.
