Wow. That's awfsome. (spelled correctly.) Sorry it's a pain in the ass for you, but it's pretty beautiful and cool looking.
Pardon the pun, but If Looks Could Kill.......

So how do you manage to keep warm in that kind of weather if the power is out?
Or is it common for the Northeast to have those heating oil silos?
You keep enough chopped wood nearby to throw in the fireplace.

We're not used to ice storms. The last bad one was 10 years ago. Four days later and 40,000 in southwest Maine still don't have power. Another 90.000 in NH are without power. Low temp last night was 3.
Most people do one of the following:
1 - They have a secondary source of heat. We have a fireplace. 2 - They have a generator to power either space heaters or a furnace. 3 - You stay with friends. We got our power back Friday night and had a slew of "strays" that lived here all weekend. 4 - You go to a shelter at night.
...or you suck it up, bundle up and pray.
Move on down to sunny FLORIDA!!!!! Granted, you might lose power if a hurricane hits, but the weather will be tolerable enough.
