I wonder if this is any indication of how disillusioned and naive George Bush is regarding the state of affairs in Iraq.  He thinks that what's happening there is favored by the Iraqi people, but, apparently, they're less than thrilled.
The only reason that guy isn't dead right now is because of Bush.  Oh, the irony.  "I hate you for freeing my people and giving me the right to openly express myself."

The shoe is symbolic ... the Iraqi version of flipping someone the bird.  This man would not have dared to throw a shoe at a foreign leader while Saddam was in power.

At some point Americans will leave and Iraq will slide back into an oppressive thugocracy.  "You're the man who threw the shoe at Bush?  Okay then, we'll spare your life... for now."

I can understand his frustration.  The Middle East has been the world's shit hole for a millenia, if not longer.  Bush gave him hopes of freedom, equality, and prosperity but his neighbors and countrymen have continued their ways of terror.

Throwing shoes if for sissies.
So is allowing a fraction of a percentage of radicals to control your entire religion as well as the politics and wealth of your entire region.

A religion of what?  Peace?  Enabling terrorism?  Quiet support of terrorism?

Wow, that is some strong kool aid you are drinking.  Most Iraqi's resent the USA invasion.  This wasn't the liberation of France from the Nazi occupation.  This was an invasion of their homeland.

Been hanging out in Iraq lately?

Seeing as the people are protesting in the street to let this guy out of jail, he may have a point.

And the right too. We are not well liked over there by a large percentage of the population due to mistakes we have made during our occupation.
Hell we are even blowing it in Afghanistan and could wind up losing there too.

First "gay-marriage" (an oxy-moron), and now "occupation".  What word will the left redefine next?

It's not an occupation when you're supporting the democratically elected government.

There are plenty within Iraq who view the gov't the same way I view Vichy France.

I am always amazed that the same folks who still resent Sherman's methods when freeing the slaves 150 years later, can't accept that many Iraqis don't view the USA as liberators.

There are plenty of repressive governments in the world.  China, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, most of Africa to name a few.

All of those people deserve to live in freedom.

However, the reality is if we invaded Saudi Arabia to impose the right of women to vote, driver etc.  Most Saudi women would greatly resent us.

If we invaded China, Syria, Iran or any other country the vast majority of the citizens would view us not as liberators but as aggressors.

If Bush had gone to congress and the world and said Hussian is an evil man and we need to get rid of him and built a coalition the way his dad did it would be one thing.

He did not he lied about WMD and then said well, there was no WMD but Hussian was a bad man so it was a good thing anyway.

The reality is we are not viewed as liberators, the way we were in Kuwait or France in WWII.  But as invaders the way Iraq was viewed in Kuwait or the Nazis in France.
