He was our leading receiver this year.  He contributed lots of big plays.

Seriously, I was named the dumbest poster on this board yesterday, but you're giving me a run for my money

Ginn finally had a decent season. But he has HARDLY shown he is worth the 9th overall pick in the draft and worthy of a $20,000,000 contract. If he keeps going the way he is he is in for the biggest Paycheck cut since the Detroit Automakers. But he showed flashes of brillance, I feel WAYYYYY more optimistic about him at the end of this season then I did Last. Maybe he is just a late bloomer like TO?

Post after Post   Ted Ginn hate.  People, Give the guy some props, While he may not end up being HOF material or the #1 guy, the man has great speed and catching ability.  How many time you saw him have the case of the dropsies like Derek "waste" Hagan.  I understand that the Hate will always be there cause of his draft ststus, but its not his fault.  Camoron yeah yeah  oKOK its freakin Over Lets all move on form this crap and look forward to how his career grows.  I still believe he can be  Good dependable WR in this league!

Think of it this way, if we cut him, how many other teams do you think would pick him up immediately?  I think this next year will be his year.  He's gotten better every year.

Third year WRs are in prime "breakout" territory, but I'm not so confident in Ginn doing that.

Sorry, but that's just how I see him at this point.

I have to agree as well.   And again, it's Cam CaMORON's fault for drafting him so high.  He would've slid into the second round easily.

Let's look at it this way.

If we had drafted Brady Quinn in 2007, we would probably not have gotten Pennington, so picking Ginn was actually a good move

Come on, now...you cannot assume how other picks/additions would be affected by drafting Quinn in that slot. You also can't assume that if we had drafted Quinn, that he wouldn't have developed to the point where we wouldn't be concerning ourselves with Pennington, as we'd have our now-and-future QB already under center and rolling.

Expending a #9 overall pick in that draft class on Ted Ginn was a "bad" move, no matter how anyone spins "what if?" scenarios off it. His talent, and what he can contribute to the offense, is not commensurate with that draft slot. When you have a top-10 pick (give or take a few, depending on top end prospect depth in that draft class), you have to grab an anchor-type impact player. You get your solid #2 WRs (which is all I see Ginn developing into) and return men later...a good bit later. I sure hope Ginn continues to improve and develop, but I don't expect he'll ever justify that #9 pick.

Just out of curiousity

What would Ginn have to do to silence you guys who just continue to bash him?

He contributed more than his share of big plays this year, especially in the biggest game of the year

56 catches is pretty good, especially in a run-oriented offense.

So we got 56 catches from our lottery pick, and 54 from our undrafted FA rookie... Please reread my post for what I want out of Ginn to justify that draft slot.

And, just for the record, calling a #2 caliber WR a #2 caliber WR isn't bashing him, it's accurately assessing him.

A month or so ago ( after the season) .... I read some comments from Sparano about Ginn. He said Ginn is progressing nicely and people need to get off of his back. He said Ginn is doing everything asked of him and then went on to point out how Ginn draws coverages that open the other guys up. So using other statistics of recievers on this team really isn't fair to him.

Ok a quick Google but i didn't find the exact article.  This one is close.

http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_football_dolphins/2009/02/sparano-get-off-ginn.html

All you Ted Ginn Jr. haters need to listen up.

Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano, a tough guy of all tough guys, a coach who doesn't throw around praise very often, wants you to ease up on the former Ohio State standout the last regime took with the No. 9 pick in the 2007 draft.

"From day one I've been involved with him, he's worked hard and gotten better and better. He's really learned how to be a solid pro," Sparano said. "[Ginn] made some of the big plays this year you want some of those first line receivers to make. He's getting better and better that way."

According to Sparano, Ginn loves to take coaching, and because he's receptive the Dolphins expect more growth in his third season, which is the year receiver make the biggest leap.

"Ted knows he's got room to get better right now," Sparano said. "We make [special teams] decisions. It's not Ted's fault [he was pulled off the unit]. When you look at the big picture and see the big plays Ted did make during the course of the season, this guy had two kick returns called back. Look at the big balls he's caught, and the big games he's had. Without Ted we don't have a chance to be where we were.

Ginn did lead the team in receptions, but a lot of times he was select for large portions of the game because he was running deep routes to clear out the secondary for the rest of the offense to work.

"We finished in the top 10 in offense [last] year and we don't have any stars in that group. Everybody knows that. Dan Henning and our offensive staff did a tremendous job of spreading the ball around and getting it to our people," Sparano said. "Is it important to have one [an elite receiver], yeah. But I've been in some situations where we've not had that guy and not finished in the top ten in offense so I like where we are. They are unselfish. If you get that piece, great. Better hope it fits. But if you don't, we're prepared to go without it."

After reading this do you still feel upgrading the receiver spot is a necessity, or is it a luxury?

Hey, CF...I seem to recall Sparano and Ireland saying really nice things about John Beck as well.

Just sayin'...
