Lee will be an amazing fit in Philly.  And make no mistake about it, that is a move designed for a show down with the Dodgers.

If the Jays screw this up and head into the offseason with Halladay still in their locker room it won't be good.  A LOT of his value right now is tied in to the fact that a team will be getting him for the stretch this year and all of next year.  The Jays can't afford to not deal him before Friday.

Last week, the Jays told the Phillies they wanted J.A. Happ, Kyle Drabek (the Phillies top pitching prospect) and outfielder Dominic Brown (the Phillies top position player prospect). The Phillies didn't want to give up both Happ and Drabek and said no, but counter offered with Happ, pitcher Carlos Carrasco, short stop Jason Donald, and outfielder Michael Taylor. The Jays said no.

So Instead, the Phillies get last years Cy Young award winner, without giving up Happ or Drabek!
Now granted, Lee is not Halladay, but he's a damn good pitcher and has been pitching great lately.

Edited to add- My nephew just pointed out to me that technically, the Phillies could still go out and give the Jays the 3 players they originally wanted for Halladay, and have Halladay, Hamels, and Lee as a 1-2-3 punch!

I agree with this 100%. I was OK with the Phillies giving up all that talent for him, because it could've meant two playoff runs with him in hte rotation. If they don't trade him, his value will drop severely before the winter.

^^Look at what happened with Johan Santana and the Twins.  That should be a cautionary tale for the Jays.  You get a lot more when a player is under contract, even for another year.

I didn't know Carlos Lee could pitch in the first place!

Me either.

Looks like the bidding war for Roy Halladay is heating up between the BoSox and Yanks.  I wonder where he'll go.... or if he'll go

^^What the hell are you talking about?  The only thing that came out of Yankees ownership lately is that Baby George hasn't given the GM permission to add payroll.  Nothing is "heating up" between the Red Sox and Yankees.  Not the division race and certainly not the chase for Halladay.

It never surprises me when New York swoops in last second and plucks away a player.  That is what they do.  But as of right now the Yankees have said that they aren't going after the guy.

^^^

Yeah, the only trade moves we've made are the Hinske deal and trading for Jason Hirsch from the Rockies. I like Hirsch, although I think he'd be garbage in the AL east. Who knows though. We struck gold the last time we plucked a garbage pitcher from the Rockies and placed him in our rotation (Shawn Chacon).

I've heard that the Yanks are trying to get Jarrod Washburn. I don't think they feel very good with Sergio Mitre as their number 5 guy. I wouldn't either, when the Sox are breathing down your neck in late July.

They were looking at Jarrod Washburn last season as well.  Have you seen what this guy has been doing this year?  He automatically becomes the best number 4 in the league if the Yankees add him, bumping Joba to #5.  I'm actually nervous about them pulling something off to get Washburn.

I am kinda of nervous that I am not hearing much out of Dodgerland. The Lee trade was huge for Philly....a team that is playing great baseball right now while the Dodgers can't seem to score any runs. Philly scares me in the NL and they are the defending champs. The Dodgers need pitching help and fast otherwise they can kiss any chance at the World Series goodbye. Go get friggin Doc Halladay LA!!!!!

I can tell you this - and it's accurate - the Dodgers and Blue Jays were in discussions last night well into the early morning hours of today.  There are rumors that they weren't talking about just Halladay, but Downs and Rolen as well.  Stay tuned.

I bring this up because of the Marlins fans on the Board....
The Cubs are pursuing  a left handed bat,and a reliver...Hermida,and Teahan seem to be the targets..They don't feel like we'll get either....
http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/1692332,CST-SPT-csep30.article

I have to admit, When the fake rumor about Detroit wanting Milton Bradley this past weekend..I knew had to be B.S. but it Made ME SO HAPPY dreaming that it might be true.....

Piece of Shit Soriano, and Piece of shit light Bradley are both big mistakes...I think Lou is part of the problem with Soriano, Soriano is a little better, now that Lou isn't hitting him lead off,and finally taking his horrid ass defense out of ball game later in games....(Brenely for Manger in 2010!)

I like the idea of Teahan more than Hermida, being he can play 1st,3rd,and the outfield....But then again, I that takes Fox's spot on the roster....I hope they aren't intending to move Hoffpauir.

I still seem to be reading lot's Gossip about Padres on the Move, Gonzalez ,and Bell....I don't buy the Gonzo going anywhere, for the exact reason Towers gave earlier in the year...Who will Padre fans come to the ball park to see? (unless you're just a hard core guy like Stroke  Wink )

Don't know much about Downs....Rolen not sure where he would fit in. Good player but I am not terribly upset with the job that Blake has been doing at 3rd. Halladay is who I want. Thanks for the insight Maine.

(Brenely for Manger in 2010!)

Be careful what you wish for.....Brenely will give you fits. He is an ok manager but his decision making sucks. I had to hear about it daily here in AZ on the local sports talk shows. Nice guy who the players seem to like. I am not sure if a lot of his problems weren't because he was handcuffed by management either but again buyer beware with Brenely!!!!!
