Oh no, other nations are trying to influence our policy by telling us how great we are!

This outrage must be stopped at all costs.

While I agree it is a bit premature.  Your agruement is based on totally false accusations.

It only takes one person to nominate him.  Yes, his nomination was based on his campaign promises to repair the damage done by the madman that previously held the office, the work he did to heal relations during the transition period, and  the fact that the world was more a more peace  a mere two weeks after he was in office.  (And in fact it was)

The actually awarding of the Peace prize was based on a little less than one year in office.

Nothing false about it. Its based on a Complete lack of any facts .............any facts supporting Obama has acomplished any of the things he said he would so far.   Granted , Its only been a year, and he has alot of his plate. I'm willing to give him more time to acomplish his goals . But giving him this award before he has just really cheapens it. He himself should not accept it and step down.

I think you underestimate the significance of not being George W. Bush (or Dick Cheney).

You may have a point there! Grin

YOU are based on a complete lack of facts.

Yes, it is a fact that the US has better and more peaceful relations under Obama than under Bush.

This award has nothing to do with his campaign promises.  The fact that the oil and gas tax loophole have not yet been closed has nothing to do with this award.

You want to claim that this award was determined two weeks after the US election when in fact it was determined over a year later than that.

While I agree this award was premature.  You are not interested in actually discussing that based on facts, but based on making up your own, or maybe what you heard on Rush Limbaugh.

That is mathematically impossible.  It hasn't even been a year since the election.

Really? Last time I checked People were still dying in both Iraq and Afganistan. In fact Afganistan is even getting worse:   http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33256784/ns/world_news-south_and_central_asia

Don't know what set of facts your going by......maybe something you heard on Oprah?  Roll Eyes

Premature is an UNDERSTATMENT. Its a disgrace and it brought the worth and the signifigance of the Nobel down more then a few notches when its given just to make a political statement.

How is it a disgrace?  WTF?  You're reacting completely irrationally.  It's like you're angry that our president is being recognized for something good.

And peace IS a political statement.  That's what the award is for -- to make a statement towards the politics of peace.  By it's very nature, it's a political award.

Seems like many of the people who are claiming that awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama diminishes its significance are the same people that have already been saying that it's meaningless for years, ever since it was awarded to Yasser Arafat (and again when it was awarded to Al Gore).

I have to say, only in America does our President get the Nobel Peace Prize and everybody whines about it. I think it's laughable that those that usually would pay no attention to the prize are now all up in arms. A disgrace? Really? He didn't nominate himself.

Shut up, America. Once again you're embarrassing those of us that aren't assholes.

Really?  I thought Peace was something when people were not afraid to walk down the streets without getting blown up , hardly the scene in Afangaistan right now.

Hey heres a thought.......lets give the Superbowl Trophy to New Orleans. Fuck the game.  That city deserves it right?

It may be a political award, one that Obaba should get in his 4th yr for trying,  but this is a Joke. Afirmitive action at its highest level.  Roll Eyes

Desmond Tutu was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his work against apartheid in South Africa.  Apartheid wasn't abolished until ten years later.

Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002 for his work to establish peace in the Middle East, which is still one of the most war-torn areas in the world.

Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for his work towards combating global warming.  The globe is still warming (although I imagine that you probably consider this award to be just as illegitimate as you consider Obama's to be, anyway).

The Nobel Peace Prize is not simply awarded based on net results.  There are many examples of when it has been awarded based on effort.  For almost two years, Obama ran a campaign in which he sold the people of America on the idea that diplomacy is a important and underutilized part of our foreign policy, and that we should strive to involve the rest of the world in conflict resolution (and, significantly, he actually won an election with this philosophy).  In his first 9 months in office, he has effected a dramatic shift in U.S. policy re: internationalism.

I find it rather ridiculous that you believe that this is an affirmative action award; this belief is completely incompatible with the claim that he got the award for simply not being GWB.  Do you seriously believe that if a (non-adulterous) John Edwards had won the election and implemented the same policies, he wouldn't be getting the award?  Is he any less not-George-Bush than Obama?

Spider-Dan, weren't you aware that the only way that a black person can win anything or get any sort of promotion, job, etc is through affirmative action? Blacks are not capable of doing anything on their own. They must rely on things being "handed" to them.

NOT TRUE.  But when shit like this happens, it does turn the clock back 10 yrs easy on everything that was accomplished by hard working deserving black people.
Don't worry........I'm sure Oprah will hold his hand through the next 3 yrs.  Roll Eyes
