Because it is history, it is sad that we have to drag up 1972 to have anything to brag about.

I find it amazing that Dolphin fans would even consider wanting the only perfect season broken. I never bring it up. I doubt many of you ever bring it up because it was before you were born. It is history. It makes the Dolphins franchise special. I don't get it.

Just ready to move on. If we had won a SB or two by now it would mean more. As it is ... it's like being Ed Bundy and bragging about what we used to do.

And Al Bundy.  ...or Ed O'Neil.

Breaking it doesn't change anything except make the organization less special in one way. The current Dolphins aren't any more successful if it is broken and if you're like me you don't bring it up anyway.

It isn't like if it gets broken the team is all of a sudden a new Super Bowl contender. One has no reflection on the other.

It's not a record that can be broken, only equaled.

Either way, it is wishing for your favorite team to be less special. It doesnt make sense.

I'm actually very surprised at the sheer volume of folks here who actually want to see a team go undefeated (you weren't this anxious in 2007, let me tell you).

This is actually fascinating to me. When a team does go 19-0, the Dolphins 1972 team will no longer be relevant as it is every season until the last team loses their 1st game, which basically kills the marketing and advertising strategy of the Miami Dolphins.

Also, almost every Dolphins fan I've ever argued sports with plays the "Perfect Season" card within an average of 30 seconds. Every argument usually goes something like this:

Joe: "Hey [Dolphins Fan], the Dolphins suck"
Fan: "Hey Joe, the Giants suck too! F you!"
Joe: "Well at least we [insert recent accomplishment]"
Fan: "Oh yeah? Dan Marino was the MAN! Phil Simms / Jeff Hostettler / Y.A. Title / Dave Brown / Eli Manning sucks!"
Joe: "So did Dan Marino? How many Super Bowls has he ever won?"
Fan: "Super Bowls aren't an individual accomplishment. 1972 PERFECT SEASON!!!! IN YOUR FACE you short hairy asshole!"

This will all change come Super Bowl XLIII.

Please show me the Dolphins marketing strategy that plays on the perfect season. does it get mentions on occasion? Yes. Is it their centerpiece of marketing? No. I'd love to know what Dolphin fans you talk to who bring up the undefeated season because the only people I know who bring it up are the media this time of year and people like you.

You continue to say this, but I never see fans brag about the perfect season.  It's a point of pride for me, though.  Just how Yankees fans wouldn't want someone to break DiMaggio record from way back.

Your argument is from 1998.  That happened once.  You've been on a rampage ever since.  Shut your hole already.

YOU bring up the 1972 Dolphins FAR MORE than any 5 Dolphins' fans on these boards combined.

Just to clarify: I would rather another team not have a perfect season, but if it happens, I am not going to get terribly upset about it.

Serious...

And honestly, the media part doesn't bother me, it's every non Dolphins fan who keep bringing it up that does. God, if that doesn't scream a little bit of envy...

^^ i think you're right on here.  I think non-Dolphins fans get way more bent about it than we do.  I think its just jealousy.

It's a milestone in Dolphins history but I'd rather have six Super Bowl trophies than two trophies and one undefeated season.
We don't get 4 extra trophies for someone else going undefeated.

Would I rather have 6 championships than 2?  Sure.  But since that hasn't happened, I'll take 2 championships and the only undefeated team over just 2 championships.  (Similarly, I'd rather have 6 championships and the only undefeated team over 6 championships.)

Going undefeated just isn't relevant anymore.

In the todays NFL, there is a greater chance of going undefeated because of free agency.

The press makes it out to be a big deal.

The reason why people rose up against the Patriots was because of Spygate that year. They didn't want the Patriots to win because fans felt like they cheated their way into victories.

Back in the 1970's, it tooke 3-5 years to turn a NFL team into a playoff team. Now, it can be done the next season,

I don't know who will be there but history awaits.
