Even though it happened well before I was alive, I like that the Dolphins are the only team to have done it.  I'm glad the Colts lost today and think that it really shows how tough it is to pull it off.  In order to go undefeated, you have to risk wearing yourself out, and take everyone's best shot, every week.

I have to agree with you Dave.  I have been a Phins since I can remember (I was born in 1970), but obviously I don't remember the SB wins since I was too young.  I was about 6-7 yrs old when I got to rooting for the Phins.  my family is from Miami Springs and then we moved to Central PA. (where I have to hear these damn Stillers fans)

It's an important feat to have accomplished an undefeated sesaon and it should be talked about, plus I love to hear them bring it up every year.

The Colts probably could have done it.  They let the Jets win, and they would have demolished Buffalo next week.

I am disappointed in the Colts.  I woulda liked to see them make a run for it.

I attended some games during that 72 season but I'm getting tired of hearing about it.

Its a storybook feat. Starting QB gets knocked out and the backup takes Miami to the AFC Championship Game where they beat the Steelers on the road 21-17 then they win the Super Bowl.

But the 73 team was the most powerful Dolphin squad ever assembled.

Miami is 2-5 in Super Bowls. I'd rather have won some of those Super Bowls. As a kid, I'm thinking that Miami was going to win at least two more Super Bowls in the 1970's. That's just how good they were until the Sea of Hands playoff game out in Oakland.

For people that think that the Dolphins fourth quarter collapses are just a recent thing, you can point back to the Sea of Hands game. They have a tradition of collapsing in the 4th quarter. It became a part of Miamis' heritage.

The last time Miami won something was in 1973 which was 36 years ago. When I look at New England today, who has surpassed Miami in Super Bowl victories, I laugh because Miami would beat down the Pats back then like a stepchild.

If the NFL doesn't go to an 18 game schedule, someone is going to do it(go undefeated). I think that free agency and player movement will allow for it to happen sooner or later and when it does, it will be more of an occurence. Just like in college football years back, undefeated seasons were rare but now its easy to have an undefeated season in college football.

Great accomplishment but its been 36 years. I'd rather have the Super Bowls.

I wouldn't.

There are two other teams with 5 Super Bowls (there's one other team that's 5-0).
There is a third team with 6 Super Bowls.
There is only one undefeated champion.

So Spider-Dan, if you had to make a deal with God or Satan (whomever), you would pick an undefeated season over six Super Bowl trophies?

Pretty much.

I think we have a better chance of getting to 6 Super Bowl wins (eventually) than another team does of going undefeated.

If NE in 2007 couldn't do it, it's not going to happen.  That was the perfect storm of team with multiple recent titles, pathetic division, ridiculous offseason acquisitions, and (most importantly) asshole coach that's accountable to no one, and they still couldn't do it.

The only ones who give 2 shits about the 72 team are the 72 team and the Dolphin fans, because its the only thing they've had in their existence.

Beyond that Indy took a huge dump on the 72 team and what they meant yesterday when they decided to roll over and deem their record not even relevant to attempt breaking.

NO cared about it... before they lost.
NE cared about it... before they lost.
I'm pretty sure DEN cared about it in '98... before they lost.
It's obvious the media cares about it.

The Colts have to win the Super Bowl for that to be the case in the long run. If not, they finish with 2, maybe 3 losses.

Nobody cares after New England won more games in their year then Miami did. The 'record' has already been broken as far as I'm concerned. Maybe we should have the 72 fins come back and play 2 more games and see if they can win them both.

Then perhaps somebody should have informed both the Saints (who stated, point-blank, that their goal was to make history) and the media, who has made a big deal of both the Saints and Colts.

If people really didn't care, we wouldn't have pooh-poohers standing on soapboxes screaming, "Nobody cares anymore, shut up about it!"  It's like the cop standing in front of the wreck saying "Nothing to see here, move along," when the fact is that there is something to see there; if there wasn't, he wouldn't need to be telling people to move along.

It's a rare occurrence to go undefeated, but it's going to happen. There has been an undefeated run pretty much every year this decade by the Colts or Saints or Pats or Titans or whomever. It will happen eventually, and then the 1972 team won't be original anymore.

Dolphins fans care because it is their gold standard - the only thing that makes them unique and different. Once that goes away, the cold hard reality will set in that the team hasn't done shit in almost 40 years. That's about as bad as the Detroit Lions or the Cleveland Browns.

The Saints are notorious for being one of most losing-est franchises in football. That's the only reason it was such a big deal to them.
