reflections on the 2009-10 season

well it's officially over...

wondering what we learned from the 09-10 season about this team? defense seems to have regressed, no real playmakers on either side of the ball, and the jury still seems to be out on the starting qb position.

I said this before and I will stick by it.

The Dolphins at the QB position have more escapability and can call more plays with Thigpen at QB than Henne. Witness the play to Fasano. We haven't seen that play all year. It's tough asking your emergency QB to go in and win the game. 

Thigpen has touch and can throw arcs. If that would have been Henne aiming for Bess, the ball would have been thrown in the 5th row.

I don't hate Henne but I'm not sold on him yet. Lets give him a number 1 receiver and see what he does.

We are in great shape. All we need are some quality WRs,TEs, LBs, and a big arse NG. To quote Wanny ... "We are close".

I think the end of the season raised more questins than gave us answers. The only true answer is White needs to play somewhere other than  qb.

It was a hell of a ride.  What looked to be a brutal season had it's moments at times, but came up short.  Still, when you lose your starting QB, starting RB, starting NT and a starting CB, and still manage to go 7-9, remain competitive in every game, and contend for the playoffs up until the final week of the season, you accomplished a lot.  

Next year, it is imperative to pick up a true #1 receiver, as well as a big nasty nose tackle and some pass rushers.  A safety who can cover would be nice too.

This season gives us the grand opportunity to cut loose the dead weight, like most of the NFL will do.

We had the second biggest contract payout in the NFL and only got a 7-9 season out of it. They need to use this non salary cap season to jettison players not grab them.  Bye bye Crowder , Ginn, and Allen.  I have stated all year my displeasure for Crowder. I can't believe they resigned him. he is just not an intelligent player. He can't read Offenses and misses tackles like the players are made of slime. Miami has to score a Stud Receiver and a Killer Middle Linebacker if they want to shut down these Offenses. Some who can roam that field side to side and stick when they tackle .  I really like the DB help we got in last years draft. But without a Middle and a Nose Guard it falls apart.

I saw some things this season that gave me hope for the future.   A couple of rookie cornerbacks who could turn into one of the better twosomes in the league.  Henne showed some promise.  He will still have to develop, but I do see potential.  This year showed us just how badly we need a game changing kind of wide receiver.    About the only thing really positive is that I ended up being correct in my thread before the season started in which we were supposed to predict the Fins' season record, 7-9.   I would have liked to have been wrong.

I agree with Tommy - for all the injuries and the tough schedule we hung tough in every game. We also got to see the future of or CBs and our QB because of the injuries ... better now then next year. Unfortunately we also realized the error of the Gibril Wilson signing and the mistake of not pursuing a stud WR.

I'm not sure getting rid of Jason Allen is a good idea because I believe all the money we wasted is already gone ... now his contract is fairly cheap, but if an upgrade is available ... see ya!! As far as Crowder, Wilson, Porter and Pat White ... I'd love to see them gone. I'd really like them to step up the development with Turner and Wake because they have the tools to get the job done. Of course, they don't pay me $hit and will do whatever floats their boat.

I'd hate to tell you this but there is a reason Patrick Turner was inactive for every game...... he's very slow and can't get separation off the ball.

I see it as follows:  Might be set at QB, set at RB, need to upgrade WR and TE, set at OL.  Set at K.
Set at DL, need to upgrade at LB, set at CB, need to upgrade at S.  Set at P.

Miami's not "close", perhaps, but it is an ascending team.  Young, punishing lines on both sides of the ball and tough corners is not a bad place to start.

I really like where they are headed

Hartline looked really good this year, as did Hilliard.

Henne will improve, so will the rookie corners.

Ricky and Ronnie will be back in 2010.

My main reflection is that the management wasted a 2nd round pick last draft, and should've grabbed a WR with that pick.

I think Pat White has a role with this team.  I think he could be converted to wingback/wideout with his scrambling abilities.
