One thing I don't get... Why do these "substitutes" count as "Pro Bowls"? (Other than "no one would want to go otherwise"). Seriously, you didn't get the nomination, suck it up.

See my thread about "Pro-Bowl QB David Garrard" ( Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes )with his 15TD's and 10 INT's.

I don't understand how the hell Garrard got in. Maybe through a coaches vote?

I think Bell deserves it.  Unfortunately, he has been stuck on a team that lacks a lot of luster and had to compensate for a heavy load of new additions in the backfield.  But if you take into account his play alone, I truly believe he is deserving.

Good for Bell, and even better for Bell that he's going to show up.

Boo for Jake Long.

^ I think it was you that had the idea that if you don't show up (unless you're in the SB or hurt) then you shouldn't be considered a "Pro Bowler" in any sense.  It's as if it never happened and commentators should be restrained from ever even mentioning it as well.  That kind of stuff only hurts the NFL's product.

Good idea.

Are you suggesting that "not going to the Pro Bowl" hurts the NFL or that "not counting it" hurts the NFL?"

I can't tell if you're being facetious.

Problem is that suddenly every player in the NFL is mysteriously "injured".

Randy Moss, Tom Brady, Larry Fitzgerald, Jake Long - they're all injured?  Really?

Sorry.  I deleted a sentence between the commentators and the NFL's product.

No, I'm not being facetious.  It hurts the NFL's product in the sense of players coming off as they don't give a shit about "The Pro Bowl".  So why should anyone else?  Not only that, but I think it cheapens and damages the prestige of the Pro Bowl.  Therefore, as you had said (I think it was you), you don't go - you don't count/you never "made" it.

^^

Yeah, that was me.

I agree with you.  How are we supposed to think it's such an honor if the players don't.  I'm especially critical of guys like Jake Long who still have a lot to prove in the NFL.  I can understand someone like Brady, who's been a bunch of times and had a season where he got banged up.  But Long should be chomping at the bit, especially since it's in his own stadium.

It is a popularity contest if you ask me. It is like being voted class president in high school, sure it looks good at the time but it shouldn't be a measuring stick for anything.

Can't speak for the others however Fitz is dealing with bum knee, ankle, and there is something wrong with his elbow. He has been having issues for a few weeks.

Every player is banged up by the end of the season.  The fact is that if the game counted they'd be plenty healthy to get out there and play just fine.
