As I read it, Carpenter was the #2 choice behind Nate Kaeding in the AFC

(Matt Prater's name wasn't even mentioned)

This addition is another choice I agree with.  He doesn't get the high marks of others due to being so new to the league, but it is hard to think of a more solid kicker.

The only thing I see as a negative for Carpenter's selection is his lack of being put in high pressure situations.  He hasn't been put in positions where his kick makes the difference between winning a post season game or losing.  But it isn't like this is his fault, and I actually have a fair amount of confidence that he could be relied upon if that situation were to arise.

I think Dan Carpenter is definitely worthy of a Pro Bowl berth, and is one of the steadier young kickers in the league. Not like I'd specifically go watch a Pro Bowl to cheer for a kicker, but he deserved the invite, imo...

It will be nice to see him out there running routes while Ochocinco practices off the tee on the sidelines.

I am surprised to see all this love for Carpenter. Many people on this board were wanting to run him out of town last year. What happened?

I think that Carpenter has been a solid guy at his position.  I understand why kickers are looked down upon on a football team because of the nature of their position and the fact that they aren't always very athletic.  But I think that the role a kicker plays is overlooked way too often.  They are often on the line to win (or lose) a game and with the importance of field position, the ability to put kickoffs into the end zone is REALLY big.   I'm glad to see any Dolphin player in the Pro Bowl even though the game is kind of a joke.  I just don't want to see any Dolphins ever get hurt in Pro Bowl games.
