We had a free Super Bowl concert in downtown Ft. Lauderdale over the weekend.  There were a ton of people there, and buses were shuttled to get people to the concert site.  After it was over, the buses brought everyone back to downtown, where the bars were.

I was out.  It was late, and I was on foot.  I was having trouble getting my bearings to find the parking garage.  While looking for my car, I ran across a young guy out by himself, completely wasted.  He got in the elevator with me, then slumped to the ground and I had to help him stand up.

I got him up and stumbling and then I just let him go.  I didn't know the area and he was too drunk to even speak.  I would be concerned that he would get in a car, but I don't think he'd even be able to find a car, much less put a key in it, without first passing out.

I had my own problems and didn't want to be out in downtown Ft. Lauderdale, not knowing where I was, any longer than I had to.

Should I have acted differently?  Tried to help him or called the cops or something?

Looking back on it, maybe you should have called the cops but if I was in that position, I would have just left him there. It's his fault for being a moron so let him live with it.

Sometimes sleeping it off in an elevator is a mighty fine educational tool...

I don't know what I would have done if that happened to me because I would have been so shocked.  In retrospect, if no one seemed to be with him, I think it would be a good thing to put him in the hands of someone who could help him.  My cousin almost died of alcohol poisoning when he was younger and probably would have if his brother had not dragged him to the ER.

If it were a different scenario, I probably would've helped him -- gotten his phone -- called his friends or something.

But I was already responsible for finding my car and getting other drunk people home.  I didn't feel up to the task.

He's an adult, and if he can't handle his alcohol, that's his problem.

If, on the other hand, you saw him get into a car, then you should have called the police.

I would have done very similar as you. You also have to be careful in unfamiliar places. A crew looking to rob you will have a decoy person like that to draw your attention.

Side story, I saw a guy start talking in number last week he was so drunk. He was saying things like I can 53, 16, 49. Can you 14?

Everyone needs to sleep on the street at least once to learn never to get that drunk/high/whatever again. Leave him there.
If I saw him get in a car and drive, I would've called the police.

LIES...

The drunkest guy you've ever seen was the guy that puked on you at the Dolphins' game and then passed out in the stairway.

I definitely would have left that dude on the elevator floor.  Besides, downtown isn't THAT daunting, I probably could have got you where you needed to go if you were THAT lost...

I wasn't LOST.  I knew where my car was, but I was just turned around, having trouble finding directions and stuff.  I just needed to get my bearings, and that's tough when you're down on the street level.

Anyway, the guy passed out at the Dolphins game was nowhere near as drunk.  He was asleep (passed out) and then woke up to slump over and puke.  After he puked, he stood up on his own and walked up a flight of stairs to leave, unassisted.  This guy couldn't even stand up and when he tried to speak, it was just garbage coming out.

Why do you even need to ask a question like this? duh you help him out.

People will generally use their brain and help the person out by calling the police making sure the person gets home safe. But others are cold hearted and use stupid and selfish excuses to not using their brain.

Not getting annoyed with you, we all have moments of stupidity, the only thing right now is you learn from it, and do better next time.

Been there, done that. Good thing that I live in a safe neighborhood. Some passer by called the cops and they drove my obliterated ass home. I'd probably return the favor.

I bet you learned to never do that again. I rest my case.

I am cold-hearted. I don't give a shit about you being drunk. I just want you to get the hell outta my way and stay out of my yard/laundry room. When I was younger I might have cared, but the older I get the less I do.

I live just east of the area that Dave is referring to. Between all the clubs/bars and the beach. Which has more bars/clubs. At least twice a week I see some asshole passed out after leaving a club/bar/getting high somewhere inappropriate. (Might be my yard. We've had that happen.) I find them in my yard, in the bushes, by the canals, in the park. It's ridiculous. You want to go out and drink until you can't walk? Fine. Don't expect me to care about you. We're all adults here. Either you can handle it or you can't. Just stay the hell outta my yard.

When I call the cops, it's not because I care about the person. It's because they've passed out on my porch, peed in my laundry room, or whatever other misadventure that they need so much "help" with.

You must live in a little town or some shit where this isn't common?
