Mary Ann was hot because she seemed so wholesome and natural to the fake Ginger. Megan Fox cannot pull that off. Megan could definately be Ginger if she were a redhead.

Megan Fox could pull off Ginger.   Fake redhead would go perfect with the rest of Ginger.

For some reason,I thought about this while laying in bed, and Out of left field...I think Bill Pullman could pull off the Professor, while maybe not Hip and young. The professor wasn't really young.I checked IMBD,Russell Johnson was 40 when the series started.Pullman's older but I still think he'd be pretty good....

Modified to add...I'm sorry to open Pandora's box,but Honestly,I'm surprised that they would cast an all white cast...The original series was on from 1964-1967,not exactly the most cultural diverse television shows...

She has no ta ta's.  Ginger was Voluptuous. Eva Mendez gets my nod. Not much I wouldn't do to that woman.

I think that if they're going to make a Gilligan's Island movie, they've going to have to make it wacky, and I'd be nice to see the Globetrotters show up as an homage to the original.

Padded Bra to go with dyed hair color.

As for having a non-white cast...either the Howel or the prof would be the most likely canidates.  They ain't make Gilligan into a black, bumbling cabin boy.

How about Danzel Washington for the prof.

I think Eva Mendez can work as Ginger.

You guys need to think of the heart of the character and not just looks.  Ginger is a sophisticated movie star.  Megan Fox just can't pull that off.  Maryanne is a sweet girl-next-door.  Megan Fox can't pull that off, either.

As for the all white cast, I think that's the nature of this remake.  The characters are too iconic to change them up too much.  You can get away with making Ginger hispanic, but I just don't think you can stray too far from the standard look and uniform of the classics, in this case.

Why does it have to have non whites? It is a show about the zany adventures of a small group of people stranded on a small island. There were many non whites in the original, do you not remember the various tribes that came to their island hunting?
It is this PC bullshit that will prevent classic type comedies such as Blazing Saddles or All in the Familiy from getting made today.

All in the family is a bit different than Giligan's island.  If you have a "family" typically they are gonna all be the same race, be it "Leave it to Beaver" or "Cosby"  On the other hand there would be detracting about Gilligan's Island with Danzel Washington being black or Ginger being Latino.

Star Trek was not worse off because it was no longer an all white crew.

It wasn't an all white cast in the original either. You need a better example.

I'm pretty sure you missed his point entirely. He was speeaking to the politically correctness that did not exist in the 70s. All in the Family and The Jeffersons used racism as the core of their humor . You couldn't do that today.

The problem is the article says Contemporary Spin......I don't see it being set in 1964....and 2010,poses tons of other problems...Movie star in 1964,is really different than a movie star in 2010. In 2010 the basic premise is screwed,Meryl Streep,Donald Trump, and MIT Professor on a boat three hour tour? No GPS,Satellite phone,No up to the second Radar to see the Storm moving in..and on a tiny boat?

I see it as a disaster from the start.....Star trek worked, we couldn't travel to other planets at a blink of an eye when it was a series, and still can't do it now....Gilligan's island premise gets lost with modern tech IMO (no pun intended)

I don't think that political correctness has anything to do with this.  I see that term being thrown around a lot without any merit.  There is nothing politically incorrect about having an all-white cast in a movie.

It does make a movie financially less viable, though.  Black people watch movies, and when there's a black face in the film somewhere, there's going to be more ticket sales in the black community.

It's about money, not a political statement.

A Gilligan's Island movie will make money, especially if done right, with the right cast. Not every movie needs to be catered to appease every member of society. Tyler Perry's movies are primari y catered to blacks, yet they are profitable and draw in different ethnicities because they are not bad movies.
To say you need different colored faces in a movie to be more profitable is in itself political correctness, as it is wrongly assumed that blacks and other minority groups will not watch a movie or show if there is only white characters.
