Andy Reid pulls the trigger, within the same division....

Spoke to one Redskins fan already and he's miserable about it.  Methinks skins fans hate McNabb more than Eagles fans.

Can't imagine McNabb is too happy about it either. Talk about a difference in receiving targets... In Philly, he had DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant and TE Brent Celek. In Washington, he gets Santana "no longer a young cool donkey" Moss, Devin Thomas, Malcom Kelly and TE Fred Davis. While both Thomas and Kelly have some upside to them, we're still talking about a pretty hefty downgrade in WR/TE talent.

I don't think that the Eagles WRs were ever anything special...and still aren't.  Westbrook was the best receiving target McNabb ever had.  I'm really surprised.  I thought Reid would've stuck with him until the end.

^^^ Disagree strongly on both fronts there...

DeSean Jackson is arguably the best "score from anywhere" WR currently drawing breath and an NFL paycheck. Jeremy Maclin is an excellent talent, and Celek is one of the best young TEs in the game. Not sure what you're seeing that isn't special about those targets...or, more relevantly, isn't significantly better than the targets he'll have in Washington (my original point).

...and the Eagles waited one year too long to cut Westbrook loose. His bread's been toast for a good while already. McNabb will get to see that clearly now that he's reunited with Westie in DC.

The only thing that could make this any better is if Tony Romo got arrested for sexual misconduct.

I love this. Philly sucks, Washington sucks.

A lot of articles I've been reading are saying how this is a slap in the face to McNabb and that Reid is really acting pompous about this trade- to trade him within the division is like saying "we know he's washed up, and we don't think he'll hurt us."

Personally, I'd love to see McNabb light the Eagles up when he plays them, and I'd like to see Reid fall flat on his face and get fired. Then Eagles fans will be left with no Reid and no QB  Wink

I suspect Santana Moss will have a huge year this year, and the Redskins will be much improved while the Eagles will be at the bottom of the division.

I somehow missed the memo that Westbrook got signed by the Redskins

I've got to find it,but an article I read by Yahoo lastnight, said Mcnabb wanted to go to the Redskins. That when the Bills talked about trading for him,and offered a contract extension, Mcnabb turned them down...Basicly only willing to go to the Redskins....

I heard on Mike and Mike that Reid made sure McNabb didn't end up in the abyss that is Oakland. He also wanted to keep him out of Buffalo.

My brother, the Redskins fan is SO not happy about this. At least he wasn't when I call him to tell him last night.

His reaction was "Please tell me your f***** kidding me"

McNabb is kind of a bum. But I guess in comparison to Jason Campbell and the disaster that was Washington last year, anything is worth a celebration.

Washington gets a probable hall of fame quarterbacks and all the eagles get is a second round picks this year and third or fourth week next year? This trade is like trading Tom Brady to the dolphins. Also a lot of people are giving andy reid a lot of crap isn't he the head coach and not the general manager?

The sticking point here is that Washington isn't getting a Hall of Fame QB, because McNabb isn't currently playing at the same HoF level he was playing at a few years ago. They got a crusty vet QB to hold the reins for a couple of seasons while they find a young QB that they like more than Jason Campbell to build around.

I think Philly made a great trade, because by this time next year, they likely wouldn't have been able to get squat for McNabb. Instead, they get a 2nd this year and a 3rd next year (McNabb will meet the snap criteria to upgrade that trade slot, imo). Those are two quality starters for a team that really needed to get younger in a lot of different areas of the roster.

I know you're not comparing Tom Brady to Donovan McNabb. So i'll gloss over that part of your comment as i'm sure you really didn't mean to say Tom Brady = Donovan McNabb, but were merely highlighting the intra-division QB trade.
