So they are willing to sign Ferguson when he'll only be there for half the season, but 3 million for JT is just too much?

This regime seems a little too enamored with bringing in and keeping their own players (see Wilford, Ernest).  They've pretty much treated Taylor like crap from the day they arrived.

When JT signs with the hated, stinking Jets, that tells you how badly the Dolphins' management has treated him.

yup parcells is a douche.

This is a bit of revisionism isn't it? Wilford signed a four year deal and was released before the regular season of the second year. That really isn't anywhere close to "keeping your own players".

the move confuses me too, but let's not forget that taylor chose to sign with the jets.

he could have waited until after the draft to see how the market shaped up, he could have retired...

I'm curious. Is there anyone else who thinks we may already have our outside pass rushing specialist on the roster? Although a bit raw Cameron Wake was very impressive getting around the corner last year in very limited action.

^^^ If a former Dallas player had been the sited example I would have discussed Dallas. The Wilford example was off base.

I say F Jason Taylor.  He's washed up and we don't need him.  Consider this the new regime officially saying "we're moving on"

I look forward to Jason getting burned by Joey Haynos.  He's terrible in pass coverage.

Since you are quite the at home GM I'm surprised to hear you say this. Next year is the only uncapped season.

He has a huge roster bonus for next year.  Like, if he's on their roster by March 15, 2011, he gets $10 Million.  Hence, it's a 1 year, $3.5 M deal.

Brian, you're insane.  JT is "so bad" in coverage that the year before he went to Washington, they had him line up on Wes Welker all game long just to chuck him at the line and run with him a few steps.  I don't see other OLBs doing that.

And Welker had like 10 catches for 175 in that game.

The front office didn't treat Taylor like shit.  They felt that he didn't fit into their plans for 2010, so they did not offer him a contract.

Taylor didn't tell Miami to screw.  He signed with a team to play the game he loves.

Hopefully, we as fans will not boo him this season.

Wilford was released after the second preseason game in 2009, after he royally, conspicuously sucked balls during the entire 2008 season.  Why was he even on the team after 2008 ended?

For players that the Trifecta brings in, you get chance after chance, and have to completely prove without a doubt that you are completely useless before you finally are grudgingly let go.

For any player not brought in by them (e.g. Zach Thomas, Matt Roth, Samson Satele, Jason Taylor, et al) you're toast at a whim.

Want another example?  Up until the Marshall trade, Ronnie Brown was clearly our best player on the offensive side of the ball.  And yet somehow, while 35-year-old half-season-suspended Jason Ferguson and 3rd-string multiply-detonated-shoulder Chad Pennington are offseason contract priorities, Ronnie Brown sits without a new contract.  I wonder why?

I will boo Jason Taylor.  He plays for the Jets.  I don't give a crap how long he played for the Dolphins.  He was good 5 years ago, I cheered for him then.  Now he plays for the Jets and it'll be a cold day in hell before I cheer for ANY player wearing that God-awful green color.

I`m going to miss Jason Taylor, he is an all time great Dolphin. I think he still has alot left and in the Jets defense he can be very effective. I think the Dolphins made a big mistake not resigning him and will regret there decision.

This is simple to answer. Ferguson & Penington were both unrestricted free agents I beleive. Ronnie isn't.
