^^^Yeah, that's right.  That selfish asshole jock deserves your hatred for the 12 years of dedicated, honorable service to your franchise, during which he was never busted for: PEDs, beating his wife, fathering children out of wedlock, carrying firearms, making it rain in strip joints, smoking crack, consorting with prostitutes, etc...  Fuck HIM for having a douche move pulled on him by the franchise, right?  Right?!?
Sarcasm cuts both ways, Dolfan, and makes for a weak argument.

You're acting like a bunch of children ruled by your emotional responses.  Grow up and understand that the NFL is a serious business, where serious legal minds are necessary in hashing out contracts.  A contract on a post-it is a JOKE, OK?  A joke.  A Spider-Dan said:  if agents weren't necessary, Parcells, Ireland, and Sparano wouldn't need 'em too.

I agree. Wake up! SPORTS is a business! Stop fantasizing and come back to Earth.  No one has mention the Jason Taylor Foundation and what he actively does for children in the South Florida area. He's hands on. But no one cares about his foundation at all.

But people want to bash him for changing uniform colors. Totally ridiculous!

Dolphin fans try to put Jet fans as the worst in the world. I don't know what happened over the last 25 years but most Dolphin fans have become unrealistic. Again, it's a business! This is not Lombardi's Packers, Shula's Dolphins of the 70's and Landry's Cowboys. There is no loyalty in pro sports.

I don't understand why we, the fans, or the team, owe him a damn thing.  He's a former player.  Bye.

I don't get the hate for JT here. I don't get it AT ALL.

The Dolphins didn't offer him a contract. That November thing was a complete JOKE. JT effectively said, "yes, I'm interested -- send something to my agent". In response, the Dolphins effectively said "...".

JT wasn't looking for a huge pay day, not even close. He's getting PEANUTS to play in 2010 and he would gladly have played here instead.

My problem with the front office in this case is that they didn't treat JT the way ALL players should be treated: With some measure of respect. Personally, I do think he has EARNED more respect than a random player, but Parcells & Co didn't even live up to any reasonable minimum level of respect. That's bad business, pure and simple.

They had a meeting set up with JT last week or so and they just cancelled it. They were stringing him along and just generally being asshats. Regardless of how I feel about JT playing for another team, let alone the Jets, I just cannot respect the way the front office has handled this.

On the flip-side, while it hurts that JT is playing for the Jets, he's done nothing in this matter that I cannot respect. He's reached out multiple times, he's publicly stated that he wants to stay; he's done and said all the right things. All the Dolphins needed to do was allocate a roster spot. They weren't willing to do that.

One thing that surprises me in all of this is that he didn't get single offer from anyone else. Seriously, is he that much over the hill? He certainly didn't seem so last year. This isn't a player asking for $10M a year. I'll g o out on a limb and say that 31 front offices (who do this sort of stuff professionally) have it all wrong and I, the fan with absolutely no insider knowledge, know better Wink

^^ so what are the Dolphins supposed to do if they don't want him back?  Do you want them to roll out a red carpet?  have a parade?  give him the keys to the city?  maybe we should get him a pope mobile and drive him around for him to wave at everyone.

Or is "not wanting him back" not an option in your mind, because he used to be so awesome.

I don't know what you expect...

Then SAY that. Tell the guy, sorry, doesn't look like we're interested in having you on our team this coming season.

DON'T schedule a meeting with the guy and then cancel.

I'm tempted to think the Dolphins didn't want to alienate the fan base by sending JT off outright, but that would require Parcells & Co giving a damn... (I like most of the things Parcells has brought to the franchise, but that's not going to stop me from pointing out the crappy stuff).

bill parcells offered jason taylor a contract extension in november and both parties state that this is true.

It wasn't the right time," Taylor said. "I wasn't comfortable with the contract situation coming up then. Maybe I grew up old school, back in the days of Jimmy Johnson and Dave Wannstedt and Rick Spielman. We didn't talk contract once the season started. My focus was on trying to get to the playoffs, not on talking money." (salguero herald blog)

he didn't say he was "interested", or that he would "think about it". he told the dolphins to WAIT until after the offseason to discuss MONEY. funny how when the dolphins ask taylor to wait, while still very early in the offseason, he's not okay with it.

taylor is trying to come off as he did absolutely nothing wrong, he loves the dolphins, only wanted to play for the dolphins, blah blah blah blah. essentially in november he passed on an extension with those same dolphins because he didn't want to get stiffed money wise on a one year deal. thats his call... he only made what 50 million over the past 13 years and now is sooo concerned about the terms on a one year deal?

bill parcells offered jason taylor a contract extension in november and both parties state that this is true.

Both parties also stipulate that it was ON A FRIGGIN POST-IT AND REQUIRED JT TO EXCLUDE HIS AGENT! Why can you not understand that this is totally underhanded.

Quote
he told the dolphins to WAIT until after the offseason to discuss MONEY.

That's incorrect. I can see how one could interpret that from a single, isolated quote from JT, but it's incorrect. In context, you can add "WITH HIM" to the end. JT didn't want to talk money in the middle of the season. He wanted his AGENT to talk money (in the middle of the season).

Both parties agree that the offer was eventually pulled, although its unclear if there was ever any negotiations. Basically, Parcells (who "doesn't handle contracts") gave JT the post-it offer and when JT wouldn't agree without his agent, Parcells turned it over to Ireland and the post-it offer was rescinded.

The hate talk for JT is ridiculous!

Based on what Taylor has added to the team, community and game of football I say this...

For those of you who would boo Jason Taylor when he comes back to Miami just because he is in a Jets uniform, you are precisely the kind of person I would expect to see burning in hell if hell truly exists.

Don't be an A-hole!  Show respect to people, especially when they have earned it.  Don't applaud him if you don't want to, but to boo him is completely unjustified.

I agree.  Brian I'm going to respectfully ask that you edit my Monkier to Defense54 and drop the 99.    Sorry to be a bother but he is dead to me now.  Zack never left he was cut. He refused the calls to play for New England .  I know the Holy Trinity could have handled this better, But JT could have played for another Team. He doesn't need the money that bad.  Going to the Jets was a Fuck You to Parcells and Irlend , but but all he did was disrespect us.  The Jets? Its like your worst enemy fucking your wife. ()0()  Asshole.

So what are these two stories showing? They both say and offer was made in November and then pulled back in December. Not much information as to why the offer was recinded.
