^^^

So Oregon had 1 of 3 drafted players who were captains
Florida had 2 of 9 drafted players who were captains

I agree with you...not sure what that tells us about the overall picture, but I know that picking one team (Raiders) at random probably doesn't give a clear picture of all 30 teams.

Not entirely sure why the proof of burden is on the logical argument, but whatever Wink

Not entirely sure that the logical argument is on that side of the fence...thus the discussion. Wink

No, but the same could be said of picking a college. Going with the big football colleges is bound to yield below-average results, since there's a limit to just how many team captains anyone assigns (although I've come across anywhere from 0 to 5).

Apparently, the only way to convince you would be to go through each and every player -- all 255.

What we do know now is that between the Dolphins, Raiders and Chiefs, at least 17 of 23 draft choices were team captains.

I'll make it a point to invest an hour or so this weekend to doing some digging...surely there is an answer to this question out there.

I'll do one more team, quickly, going with one of the teams represented on this board (I'll leave the 49'ers for you):

Denver Broncos:
Demaryius Thomas, Georgia Tech, (negative)
Tim Tebow, Florida, TEAM CAPTAIN (source)
Zane Beadles, Utah, TEAM CAPTAIN (source)
J.D. Walton, Baylor, TEAM CAPTAIN (source)
Erick Decker, Minnesota, TEAM CAPTAIN (source)
Perrish Cox, Oklahoma State, TEAM CAPTAIN (source)
Eric Olsen, Notre Dame, TEAM CAPTAIN (source)
Syd'Quan Thompson,  California, TEAM CAPTAIN (source)
Jammie Kirlew, Indiana, TEAM CAPTAIN (source)

That's 8 of 9...

How about this instead- look at past Fins drafts, and see how many of the draftees were captains in college.

I guess the only reason the fact even stood out to me was that I read an article pointing it out. I didn't see anything after the first draft of this regime pointing that out. And you figure someone would've probably pointed it out then, saying "Look at how this new regime drafts quality leaders" even if it was always the case.

It can take an annoying amount of time to find the info -- especially for players that AREN'T team captains (the Raiders took quite a long time to do, while the Broncos were a lot quicker), so unless you can find the information collated somewhere, it's a bit of a project. And if you only do 1 previous Phins draft, you risk getting an outlier that's not representative.

I'll do one more team, quickly, going with one of the teams represented on this board (I'll leave the 49'ers for you):

Anthony Davis: No
Mike Iupati: Yes
Taylor Mays:  Yes
Navorro Bowman: No
Anthony Dixon:  No
Nate Byham:  Yes
Kyle Williams:  No
Phillip Adams: Can't tell

3 or 4 out of 8 draft picks for SF were captains...just can't find anything that lists SCSU's team captains for last year, and it isn't listed in any of Adams' bios or scouting reports.

Anthony Dixon:  No

As far as I can tell, Anthony Dixon was indeed team captain for the 2009 campaign, along with  Derek Sherrod, Lamar Chaney and Zach Smith (source. This nicely illustrates the problem with finding this information; it simply doesn't seem to be easily available. My cited source could be wrong, but I've been unable to find any announcement of team captains for  Mississippi State (with or without Dixon).

Okay, so I dug a little deeper. MSU apparently appoints weekly team captains (although they tend to be the same from game to game) and Dixon is listed as team captain in all but 3 games (no info for games 4, 6, and 11, was NOT captain for games 8, 9, and 12 -- the last of which he did not participate in).

The source is mstateathletics.com: link

IOW, it's only reasonable to consider Anthony Dixon team captain.

I can accept that...I hit a source that only listed two team captains, though I didn't read the entire article, just the section that named Smith and Sherrod as the two captains.
