2011 NFC East Champions!

« on: May 25, 2010, 08:27:00 am »

Last season, Pat White was BY FAR on this message board the most talked about player. There was even a stupid video of him posted doing something completely irrelevant in college that I totally didn't understand and neither did anyone else.

Pat White turned out to be a JOBBER of phenomenal proportions. The fact that he didn't complete 1 pass (1 single pass!) says it all.

Which player in 2010 will be completely over-hyped in 2010, and then turn out to be a complete bum this season?

This is actually a "bleh" year for me now that Ted Ginn is no longer on the team. Will anyone step in and fill the void left by Ginn?

Yea, he will probably get blamed for henne's lack of talent.

I really don't see any player on this team getting too much hype yet, so hard to say that anyone in particular will be overhyped.

Patrick Turner.

You laid that out there pretty deadpan, so I'm only about 99% sure you were joking there.

Henne is be overhyped this year.

Yea, he (Marshall) will probably get blamed for henne's lack of talent.

And if Ricky/Ronnie have poor seasons, I expect you'll blame it on Henne's sub-par handoff skills. Roll Eyes

Translation: Your angst appears to be incurable...have you spoken with a therapist about this yet?

Nope.  I'm serious.  He's a guy that got a lot of talk last year, but never really found the field, despite a lackluster receiver corps of competition.  Now that we have Marshall, I don't expect him to just become great all of a sudden.

But hopefully I'm wrong.

I guess we might have different "hype" thresholds, because I would go as far as saying that I hardly heard jack about Turner last season, except when some fans would talk about him. I see Turner as - at best - Miami's #4 or #5 WR coming into this season, and how in the world would a #4/#5 receiver ever get overhyped?

That's why I thought you were playing a sarcastic note in your original post...

I heard a lot of talk about him at Web Weekend.  Everyone just seemed to think he'd step up and he never did.

It kind of reminds me of that one receiver who didn't dress out for the whole time he was on the team (his names escapes me -- used to play for Jacksonville...)

I hear people propping this guy up and believing that there are some kind of politics keeping him off the field.  I have a feeling it's 'cause he's just not good enough.

The safe bet is Jared Odrick.  Draft picks are always a risk and Odrick is no different, if he sucks he will be a bust.  It is almost impossible for Austin Spitler not to meet expectations, 'cause nobody expects much from a rookie 7th rounder.

Hoodie makes a very valid point. Hopefully Odrick performs well though.

I'm thinking it might be one of the second year corners, like Vontae Davis. Coming off of a pretty good rookie year, showed improvement throughout the season, but still made some rookie mistakes. I think a lot of people have him pegged to be a great player this year, and it wouldn't be uncommon to see a slight step backwards.

The biggest free agent acquisition is also a usual suspect for a let down year (see Dave's Ernest Wilford reference). So besides Marshall, Dansby might fit the bill.

I'll still go with Davis.
