This is the best article I have read on the new CBA situation.

It's a good read, but it looks like we, the fans, are screwed next year.

^^^Exactly. I didn't realize the owners had set TV contracts so they will still be making money while players won't. Couple that with the loss of expenses and I don't see the owners having much incentive to work it out quickly.

Actually they won't be making money.  They will still be losing money.  But cash flow won't be an issue.  Owners will be paid as if the games were being played.  But for every game not played they need to give the networks a freebie on the back end.  So the networks are really just giving them a loan that needs to be paid back.  But yes it does give the owners some short term leverage, knowing they won't go bankrupt during the hold out.

I got all that. I just condensed it to say they will be making money (as in they will have a stream coming in while players won't).

^^^ here is why I don't see that as a huge deal.....

You don't become a billionare by living paycheck to paycheck.

Kraft, Ross, Huizenga, W. Johnson, Irsay, don't need to have a direct hit in today's paycheck to know that they just lost X millions of dollars cause a game wasn't played today cause of revenue that won't be paid by the networks a few years down the road.

the NFLPA is of course trying to get that money that the networks pay out to the owners in the event of a lockout to be put into an escrow account instead to be released when the games start

True but if they're still able to pay the bills while the players aren't, there's more pressure on the players to settle.

I got a feeling that 2011 is gonna be shortened to maybe like 10 or 12 games or something and maybe only 1 preason game as it will take a couple of weeks into the season for them to come to an agreement, but they will come to an agreement.  The year won't be lost, it will just be cut short a month or 2, but by the time the SB comes around things will be back to normal.

My gut....aug 15thish, union and league agree to play under the 2010 CBA rules and kick the issue forward one year.  Camp shortened.  Couple of preseason game canceled thats all.

I hope this doesn't drag on like baseball or hockey.  I remember them cancelling the World Series back in 1994, then they shortened the 1995 season and fan attendance went down about 23%.  Hockey took an entire season off.

I enjoyed the Vikings and Saints show of solidarity before kickoff.  I hope all the teams do that this weekend.
