If we lose 1 or both of those 2 games we are a fake. If we win them we are a fake. You can't win in the eyes of some people

I don't care if the Dolphins are a "fake" or not.  All I care about is 2-0 right now.

The 11-5 record of '08 was as fake as they come, but I'd rather be a fake 11-5 than a real 1-15.

It's about damn time some winning goes down in South Florida.

I don't get his remark "But in a division with powerhouses like New England and the New York Jets". Since when have the Jets done anything to become "powerhouses"? New England has won Super Bowls and been amongst the elite in the league for several years now. The Jets had a good run at the end of last season, and signed some "big name" free agents. Does that suddenly qualify them as a "powerhouse" team?

The Jets are in a big market, so they're the talk of the town.  The Redskins sign a bunch of has-been big names every year, but nobody is calling them a powerhouse.

Who the hell is Alex Marvez and why should anyone care what he has to say in the matter?  If Howie Long or someone else who knew what they were talking about said we were a fake, then it would be an issue.

This article is filler.

It's basically, take all the 2-0 teams.  If they've been known as a good team for the last few years, we'll say they're for real.  If not, we'll say they're fake.

I think the statement "powerhouses like the Jets" is very telling.  God, I hope we kick the crap out of them this weekend.

He used to write for the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel until he got his current job.  I've met the guy before and he's a major prick.  He's always critical of the Dolphins even when they're doing well.

I didn't read the article.

I really didn't consider the 5 point win over the Bills, who on every power rating was in the bottom 3 going into the season, to mean much other than the Dolphins aren't absolute trash and can beat shitty teams in close games.

OTOH, a win over a team that was in the NFC championship game last year, is meaningful.  And should move the Dolphins out of the "fake" category.

But two weeks into the season is bit early to really know what is going on.  If in two weeks the Dolphins are 2-2, I will consider them having beaten a bad team and gotten lucky against a good team.  If the are 3-1 or 4-0, then there is no question that they are legit.

Define the word fake.

Fake as in not a Superbowl contender?  Yeah, I think the Dolphins might qualify, there not quite a Superbowl contender.

Fake as in not a playoff team?  I would have to disagree.  I definately think the Dolphins have a good shot at the playoffs this year.  My biggest concern coming into this year was on the defensive side of the football and while it's only 2 games into the season, I think there are clear signs that the defense will be better than last year.  Sure the offense has struggled, but they are still 2-0.  I'm not gonna start worring about the offense struggling until they get behind by a couple TD's and have to open up the offense and THEN they don't look good.  Minnesotta and Buffalo have better than average defenses and Miami was winning both games, so they chose to be very conservative.  I don't necessarily agree with that approach, but I do think it effected the offenses ability to move the football.  Looking on the bright side of things, Miami actually seemed to move the football enough in the 1st half of both games to build a lead against good defenses.

I guess I'm getting old because it really doesn't bother me at all what is written about the Dolphins. With that said I would have to agree with Hoodie in that even I won't have a real opinion as to where we are for another two weeks. I've spent too many years of watching the Dolphins start off hot and then falter to get overly optimistic about the season this quick.

I live in New York and I am used to this town overhyping it's own teams who aren't the Yankees, and for them we just overhype the players.

I feel bad for any sports fan outside of NY. It has to be the most annoying thing.

^^I think I stopped caring about what people on TV, writers and other general ESPN types think when I was 18 and realized that they are all full of shit.  Marvez is a hack.

Sitting in a studio and being paid to watch football doesn't mean you know more about who is going to win and lose than anyone else.

Assholes and opinions, yes?

At the end of the day - Peter King, Dan Marino, Jaws...whoever...are going to miss more often than not when picking over the period of a season.
