Just went onto NFL.com, and a breaking news banner across the top says:
49ers fire offensive coordinator
The 49ers have fired offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye, a league source has told Jason La Canfora.

Probably overdue, but what this really means is that Alex Smith gets his 6th offensive coordinator to work with since 2005. Hard to get much consistency going when you replace your OC every season.

49ers offense looks horrific so far though, and their vaunted defense hasn't been able to keep teams from scoring. Sounds like a recipe for 0-3 to me.

If you go through 6 divorces, eventually, you have to stop blaming your ex-wives and point the finger inward.

Offensive coordinators don't get fired when their offenses are performing well.  Alex Smith runs the offense.  At this point, it's fair to say that Smith's poor play is the cause (not the result) of the lack of consistency at the OC position.

^^^ I still recall the salty taste of my own tears as the 49ers passed on Aaron Rodgers...

Thankfully, the 9ers took Alex Smith when they drafted before the Fins.  I can't help but wonder if the Fins would have taken him instead of Ronnie Brown had the 9ers gone in another direction.

Former QB's coach, Michael Johnson, has been promoted to the OC position.  Not sure his work with Alex Smith to this point warrants the promotion, but he definitely will bring more energy to the offense than Raye was bringing.  Hopefully this move clicks for SF... Lord knows they could use a break.
