I miss Ted Ginn

Seriously.

Our return game was so anemic against the Jets.  Ginn gave us the chance of breaking one.  Cobbs just doesn't have that ability.  I saw at least one return where Cobbs was tackled, and I saw a window that Ginn would have broken through.

And look:  That player we picked with the fifth rounder we got from SF hasn't done anything all year, literally.

So, we traded a player who could make a difference in games with his return ability for nothing.

Mark this one in the "Bad Moves" category for this ownership.

Sorry, but I'd rather have Nolan Carroll on the team as a reserve CB, who may develop into something, instead of Ginn, who would occasionally have a good return, but was not developing as a WR. Ginn has played one game this year (SF vs. Seattle), having one catch for 19 yards. He was inactive for the next two games.

You do realize that he lost the job of returning kicks for SF in week 1 right?  He returned 3 kickoffs for an avg of 18 yards and 2 punts for an average of 13 yards.  WHOA!!!!

And to top it off he's caught 1 pass for 19 yards.

I actually agree.  I liked the danger that he brought the special teams.  I love Cobbs (he might be my favorite Dolphin), and I like that he holds on to the ball, but I don't think he gives you that spark as a returner.

Oh well, if Chris Shashaty agrees with you, they should go right out and trade San Fran a first round pick to get Ginn back. (In other words, who cares what Chris Shashaty says).

Bess is averaging 18 yards on punt returns and Cobbs is averaging 21.9 on kickoffs.

Saying you want him back is one thing.  Saying it was a "Bad Move" for the ownership is something else entirely.

From what I've seen, Ginn would have better numbers than those if he was with Miami.

The point is, he can make a difference in the return game.  Cobbs cannot. (If he does, I'll eat my words).  Why on earth did we trade away somebody for nothing who could be a valuable return man?

Because Ginn stunk? Sure he had a couple of touchdowns on returns (and won that one game, against the Jets was it?) but he avoided contacted so much and ran out of bounds too consistently instead of actually running with the ball.

Everytime I see Marshall make a catch wearing number 19 I think to myself, "Damn I am glad we don't have Ted Ginn, there is no way he would have caught that"!

I realize you are discussing his return ability so I will follow by saying that the guy was feast or famine and rarely was there a feast.  Besides our return game has no shot with the kind of blocking we are getting, I don't care who you put out there.

Last thing...  Cobbs really looked a little faster out there since returning once we released Smith.  It almost looked like Smith taught him something or inspired him a little because he really did seem to get moving faster and picked the right seams.  A little better blocking and I could actually see Cobbs sneaking a few decent returns this year.  I was excited when they got a return specialist but the timing just wasn't right so I am ok with Cobbs for now.

Ginn was a financial casualty, I think.  When you draft a guy that high, he's going to expect money and playing time.  That's just the way it is.  He probably needed a fresh start, and we were unable to give that to him.

I understand getting rid of Ginn.  I just think that our return game would be better if we had him.

I agree with this.  But I want Ginn as a kick returner.  I don't even want to see "WR" next to his name on the roster.  I want it to say "KR/PR"

If you look at him for what he is, and not as a #1 WR, he's worth a roster spot to give you those extra 5-10 yards of field position, per possession.
