From Armando's TWITTER:

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano says ILB Channing Crowder, not at practice today, is seeing a doctor. Never good news.

Last time Dolphins players got the seeing a doctor treatment it was Will Allen and Nate Garner -- both had surgery and are out for the year.

Sparano declined to give details of Channing Crowder's doctor visit. "You're going to have to do legwork yourself," he told reporters.

From PFT:

Contrary to a report that Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder visited with orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews, a league source tells us that Crowder missed practice on Friday to see Dr. Bill Meyers, whose specialty is sports hernias.

And so common sense suggests that Crowder is being evaluated for a sports hernia, which obviously would cause problems in the groin area.

Can someone please explain the difference between a hernia and a sports hernia?

A sports hernia is more technically called an occult hernia. Occult means "hidden", which pretty well describes what a sports hernia is and why it's not trivial to diagnose. Location is not the deciding factor.

So the difference is that it is not in the same location as an inguinal hernia?

Oy.

Just so long as it's not personal.  If Crowder's injury is actually IR worthy that's okay...it happens, but Ireland may be getting a reputation as someone that's hard to deal with.

The Dolphins need ILB help next to Dansby.  Dobbins and Carpenter are backups and not full time solutions.  I'm keeping 2 fingers crossed hoping Crowder will be back ASAP.
