I agree I said that a week ago on this site when someone was using PFT as a source in a silly debate. I totally agree. But THIS specific show which was talking about the Vikings had nothing to do with PFT. It was various NFL Insiders not named Florio
Then it would probably be important to note that Mike Florio isn't the only person in the sports world capable of making things up. Heck, it doesn't even have to be a "making things up" situation either...it could simply be that source hearing one thing, misinterpreting it, and running with it from there. A quick hypothetical of this sort of thing...
Vikes owner Zygi Wilf is talking to one of his front office flunkies in the team headquarters cafeteria, and brings up the topic of how much money Parcells got in his separation package from the Dolphins. Now, the flunkie is only half paying attention, because Zygi's a boring fucker and the cafeteria's jello fruit cocktail is particularly tasty that day, and after a few moments of jiggling tangerine daydreaming, he realizes he's blowing off the person who signs his insanely large paychecks, and says to Zygi "I'm sorry...who?" To which, Zygi says "Parcells...aren't you paying attention?"
Meanwhile, the dude behind the cafeteria counter who served up the jello adjusts his hairnet, slips into the back room with his cellphone and calls this guy at the local paper who occasionally throws him some coin for dirt on the Vikes and tells him "yeah, Zygi's talking about Parcells right now!"
And voilla! ...a rumor takes wing.
