You fire the coach, you reset to zero.  Then while you wait 2-3 years for the next guy to bring in all "his people" and "his players" and completely revamp everything, the team goes 5-11 every year and people get fed up and want to fire him too.

Let's stop this cycle of silliness and get some continuity at head coach for a change.  He's only had 3 seasons to pick up a 1-15 team.  Let the guy work.
Cuz the last time Miami fired the head coach and brought in a completely new regime we went from 1-15 to 11-5.  Just sayin'.

Sometimes you just lose the players and simply bringing in a new coach is all you need to turn things around.  I can't guarantee it will work, but there's no assurances that Sparano next year won't have a meltdown of Wannstadtian proportions either.  Keep him another year and the next coach might be looking down the barrel of a 1-15 season too.

I'm with giving Sparano another yr... but, this ultra conservative play for the field goal not to win crap has to stop!!!
You can't have one without the other.  That IS Sparano.  He' not going to change, that's ALL he KNOWS.

^^^ wrong.  I don't attribute that to Sparano.  I think all you guys have misguided hate.

This is the guy that calls the plays.  He is the problem.  Sparano can't veto him on every play.

^^ You are in serious denial.  You think Sparano brought him in to run a west coast offense?  No.  He brought him in to run the offense you have seen in Miami the last 3 years.  Run first, pass second.  Maintain field position.  Don't make mistakes on offense, capitalize on mistakes on defense.  He just got done saying that Henning has done a "Tremendous" job.  I don't care if that was false praise, he still believes that Henning was doing what he was brought in to do.

So what do we have?

One of the worst rushing offenses in the league.

One of the worst special teams in the league.

One of the worst turnover differential teams in the league.

The problems go SO MUCH MORE DEEP THAN PLAYCALLING!

I'm sorry, I wish it were different, but it's not.  It's staring you right in the face and you don't want to look at it because it hurts to think that we have to start over again.  Well I'm telling you that we can either start over again NOW when the team is still an average team and find someone who can make it great, or we can wait....wait till they run it into the ground completely and we are like 4-12 and the next head coach has to start from SCRATCH.

Yes, I believe that.  Based on how this team has performed in the last 6 weeks, how can you NOT believe that?  Earlier in the year, I gave Sparano a pass because they were playing a very tough schedule and actually playing some of those teams very tough, but the last 6 weeks is when the Dolphins should have made their move.  Just the opposite has occurred.  They are playing their worst football this year and their worst football in the 3 years that Sparano has been here.  The WORST.  Even if Sparano were to turn it around, you're looking at maybe another 8-8 or 9-7 season next year and that's looking at the POSITIVE side of things.  If it goes bad, like it has the last 6 weeks, you're looking at a 4-12 or 5-11 team next year.

Look, I get it, you want to believe that Sparano can pull another 11-5 out of his ass.  So would I, but look at the facts.  We were coming off a 1-15 season and had an extremely easy schedule.  New England had the misfortune of Tom Brady being hurt in the first game.  The Jets had a meltdown of their own in the making with Brett Favre.  The Dolphins came up with a new offensive scheme that gave defenses fits for a year.  It was a PERFECT storm.  You can't expect that to happen again for a while.  In the last 2 years with all the odds being even, the best that Sparano has been able to accomplish is 8-8 and that doesn't even look like a safe bet these days.  You honestly gonna tell me that back to back 7-9 seasons is reason to believe?

And this isn't about Cowher or Gruden or anybody else.  This is about Sparano.  Hell Bill Parcells knew the way this thing was going and distanced himself from it.  You think that Bill would have jumped ship if he was convinced that this was a future SB team in the making?  Please.  He knew that he'd done what he could to right the ship, but it was gonna take a lot longer than he anticipated to get this thing back into the playoffs and beyond.  He didn't want to stick around that long.  He wasn't convinced that Sparano was the guy, what makes you so sure?

I actually expected to come on here and see two pages about Henning. Man is the egg on my face. Maybe we should rename this thread because it is all about Sparano.

I've been expecting Henning to step down all along. For all the talk about him being fired, there was rumor all season that it wouldn't come to that. Hopefully it is true.

We still have a reasonable shot at sending our kicker and punter to the Pro Bowl.

I don't think "worst special teams in the league" is a fair assessment.

Fair enough, the Kicker and Punter are pretty good provided the kick isn't blocked and even though the kicker did just have a stinker of a game.  But for a coach that prides himself on "hidden yardage" the punt and kick coverage teams are poor at best.  All the things the head coach preaches a team needs to be good at are things that need fixing.  What does say about your head coach?  I don't have a problem with Sparano's coaching philosophy, I have a problem with his ability to put that coaching philosophy into action on the field.  I don't care if they bring in another guy with the exact same philosophy as Tony, as long as he can get the players to play that way.

No, not the entire coaching staff, just the head coach, offensive coordinator, special teams coach and maybe a few others.

yeah maybe we can get Sal Alosi for strength and conditioning coach!  Wink
