Not about having "balls" its about doing the right thing. When you fire a coach every couple years the "good coaches"...ie Cowher, Gruden, Fisher...etc don't even want to talk with you let alone take your job even when you offer the most money!!

Ross made the cardinal mistake when he talked to Harbaugh and still hadn't fired Sparano. He has been trying to dig out from that ever since. Firing Philbin puts him back at square one. It isn't going to happen. Nor should it!

Ok, they Fire Philbin tomorrow, who you gonna replace him with? Bill O'Brien isn't coming here. Now when Houston and Detroit with 2  owners who everyone respects are out there in the market for a coach. Who else is out there? Who do you want to hire. It's easy to say Fire Philbin, but who you gonna hire? And you can't say hire anyone because that is foolish. Name the names.....who's it gonna be?

Have to keep Philbin for 1 more year, at least, no one else worthy right now.

just like players....coaches in a new role (Philbin going to head coach) there is a learning curve. I know on a day like today its tough to take a step back and look at the big picture, but ya hired the guy for a reason so ya gotta give him more than 2 years.

the one thing I would like to see is Philbin take over the playcalling, but not sure that happens. He and Sherman are too tight and have too much of a history for him to fire or remove duties from Philbin.

Sure, and Philbin did 'ok' during the wins after the Richie/Incog stuff. But keep Philbin prob means keeping Ireland. THAT is doubtful. Sure Rex keeps his gig with the new GM in there, and proved it. But that's rare. Ireland goes, Philbin likely would follow. Which lessor of two evils would you want? Keeping Ireland to keep Philbin assuming a new GM wouldn't keep him, or cleaning house?

if they fire Ireland, they will replace him in house most likely so it wouldn't have any effect on Philbin's status.

Case in Point....the Cleveland Browns give Chud a 5 year contract. He has no QB on his roster who is any good. After 1 year he is fired.

Good luck to the Jimmy Haslam and the Browns trying to hire a "decent" head coach now. What coach who has a brain and is any good would want to work for that owner and that organization!  Ross can't be like Haslam. Owners like that will never have success!

You say this all the time. We finished with the same record as the jets who have no talent on offense and lead the league in turnovers this year. We were 28th in the league in offense. We did not get better this year despite all the money spent. All we had to do was beat two bad teams at he end of the year. We scored 7 FRIGGING points total in the last two games. Doing nothing will get this team nowhere. Doing nothing is not the answer.

So who do you want to hire. Give me some realistic names of guys. And don't say Bill O'Brien, Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher....they ain't coming here!

I don't want cowher or gruden. I certainly do not want a staff that cannot motivate a team to score more than 7 points over the span of two games against two bad teams. When all you have to do is one and you are in.

Tony Dungy or Lovie Smith.  Bill Polian as GM

Dungy won't coach again. If you could get Lovie...now that's a realistic name. And one I wouldn't be against actually

Please no to both of those coaches.  Dungy and Lovie are both terrible.

Dungy made the worst franchise in the league a perennial playoff team.  He's pretty good.

If you think Dungy is bad you are lost. And Lovie got fired off a 10 win season and did take his team to the Super Bowl. He is a great coach.
