People on FB are saying Penny tore an ACL while playing basketball.  Has anyone seen an article on this?

yep...
http://www.profootballweekly.com/2011/03/31/report-pennington-injured-in-pickup-basketball-gam

Article...
Dolphins QB Chad Pennington was hurt on his first snap of the season in 2010, falling on his shoulder. One play later he was taken out of the game, and the injury required surgery, the fourth time Pennington's shoulder has been operated on in his career.

Pennington's offseason has been equally unfortunate. It was reported on Thursday by Chris Mortensen of ESPN that the quarterback needs surgery on his ACL after suffering an injury in a pickup basketball game. Pennington will undergo surgery on April 7.

The way we see it

It was unknown if Pennington was going to play in 2011 before the knee injury, but now it appears unlikely. ACL surgeries generally require months of recovery, and combined with his questionable shoulder, it's unlikely that Pennington will be offered a job by even QB-needy teams.

I guess he will retire for good now.  I wish him well.

^^ He's got to be one of the most unfortunate guys on the planet, but the good news is that he's a quick healer.  Get well soon Chad.

This raises a good question...

Typically the team would pick up the cost of repairing Chad's knee.  At the very least I'm sure there is some kind of medical coverage for non-football-activity injuries.  I wonder if, because there is a lockout, Chad now has to pay 100% out-of-pocket expense for his knee repair...?

Wouldn't the union help him with that?

I would assume they have some kind of health insurance via the union, even though it certified.  Then again, I could be totally wrong and he has to foot his own bill.

I don't think so. I just read an article about Davone Bess that said he bought Cobra insurance in case he gets hurt while working out. If they won't pay for Bess getting hurt while he works out, I doubt they would pay for Pennington getting hurt in a pick-up basketball game. But if I were Penny, I would have a TON of insurance, that guy is an accident waiting to happen. Smiley

Bess is under contract. Pennington is a free agent

I'm pretty sure Pennington could afford the procedure regardless
