Not sure if this belongs here...around the NFL, sports in general or off topic.....Thought it was worth a discussion but not worth derailing that thread.

This tread is only in part inspired by the back and forth between MikeO and Pappy in the Marshall thread.

To summarize:  MikeO clearly finds fault in pretty much everything the Dolphins ever do, Brandon just being the latest in MikeO's nonstop complaint list.  Pappy accuses MikeO of being a fan of another team.

While I will agree that MikeO is annoying and more often than not makes up stuff to support is position that whatever is being done is wrong, I doubt Pappy's allegation of him being a fan of another team is true.

I liken MikeO's position towards the Dolphins very much to my views of the USA under GWB or RR.  While I very much rooted for the home team, most of my commentary about how it was being managed was quite negative.  Like MikeO is now accused of not being a fan, I was sometimes accused of not being a "real American" for opposing the current policies of the leaders, often by people who had just as long of a list of complaints about our country.

Thoughts?

I just think Mike O has a miserable outlook on life in general. His personality leads to the negative in everything. I doubt he is a fan of another team, but I think he feels better internally complaining rather than anything positive (if I look back I can probably find something positive he has said, but it sure is hard to recall without digging for it).

No not that part.  The part about you actually being fan of the team and not just a troll.

whatever, I'm not here looking for life long friends via the internet. If you and others "don't like me" because of my opinions on the Dolphins, so be it! I like talking football, Dolphins football. The team has been god awful for the past decade or so. Having one great year a couple years back in Sparano's first season. Take that away and we have been one of the WORST franchises in the NFL along with Detroit and Cleveland. A total bottom feeder in the NFL. But I am supposed to put a positive spin on things. I'm supposed to say we are doing great all of our coaches and players are doing great, and the future is bright. It's not. We stink. If everything was so damn positive how come we fail time after time again. In games and in seasons!

We have a clueless owner. We have a head coach who gets way to friggin excited for made field goals and has no clue how to run a team. We have NO quarterback. Our defensive coordinator wanted to leave after last season for Dallas. Our so called STAR WR is getting stabbed and having another in a laundry list of off the field incidents. Our star RB was throwing coaches and players under the bus after last offseason. We don't have a 2nd round draft pick week. We are in a division with 2  GREAT teams in NE and NY....yet I am going to "be positive".

Yet because I am not "POSITIVE" about the Fins at this moment in time, I am negative in every aspect of my life. Hate to break it to the rest of ya, my life is pretty damn good and I am a very happy man. Great family, great friends, good health (knock on wood)....so if you want to attack me for my opinions on my favorite team the FINS, by all means go for it. But its YOU who look foolish! It's friggin football talk.....were talking football talk! Don't take it so damn seriously!

Hoodie your heart is in the right place, but sometimes people really are what they seem to be. I've been posting on forums for about 10 years now and I believe this is the first time I've EVER called someone a troll on a forum. MikeO has had plenty of time to show his true colors around here. He's had this sort of "go around" with just about everyone on these forums. You even tried to defend him and he's arguing with you about the way you defend him. His opinions are almost always negative and in some cases border on ridiculous and seem pointed toward starting an argument rather than starting a discussion.

Perhaps you're right and accusing him of NOT being a Miami Dolphins fan was unfair. I'll apologize for that. For my opinion that he has zero respect for people on these forums and of the Miami Dolphins in general, I'll not apologize, he's earned that.

Some people are just wired to see everything in the worst possible light (think George Costanza as a Dolphins fan).

I mean, it takes a special kind of mindset to not only see all of our wins as lucky, but all of our losses as earned.  I can understand one or the other, and if you believed the opposite (wins were earned, losses were luck) you're a blind homer, but believing both of those things?  It's like you're rooting for the team to fail so you can be proven right.

I seriously doubt anyone dislikes you for your opinions. It's your arrogant, asinine, and cowardly debating tactics that get people riled up. I strongly suspect that's on purpose, making you a troll -- regardless of any genuine interest you may have in the Dolphins.

Here's just a few quick points.  First, criticizing your team does not make you a bad fan unless the criticism is unfounded our unrealistic.  For example, criticizing Steve Young for not winning as many Super Bowls as Joe Montana never made any sense to me and was unfair to say the least.  Second, blindly cheering all of the wrong decisions the team makes only makes the team more likely to repeat them.  For example, cheering the vanilla, run-first, field goal-generating offenses of the last decade has not brought on enough pressure to make them reconsider their offensive philosophy.

If you really do hate every  thing about your team, then you really should consider rooting for another one.  I choose to root for the team, but I will also level what I consider to be fair criticism.  My comment about their offense above is an example.

The fact that we log onto this board shows that we have a passion for the team and the sport.  If we don't keep our posts civil, we'll turn this into a bad experience for everyone and become an embarrassment for the team.

I understand that the Dolphins have been a constant disappointment for decades.  So much talent has come and gone and Miami has been so close, yet so far away on countless occasions.  Chalk it up to coaching, front office, media, whatever..point of the story is that at the end of the day, it's all out of our control..I understand that there are websites like this to voice opions and not everyone will agree, but everyone needs to realize that, as cliche as it sounds, this is still just a game, and life goes on.  I myself have been guilty of aforementioned bashing of the team and other peoples opinons, but that's the good thing that we all have in common, we're passionate about football, and the Miami Dolphins are the team we all chose to root for.  We can not bail on the team, we all may have considered it at one point or another, but with the passion comes loyalty.  Good times or bad, this is our team.  I understand that it seems like Miami in particular never seems to improve, but with the passion and loyalty, comes faith.  Faith that one day everything will click.  Maybe this is a pointless rant that I'm going on, but I feel better after doing it.  Yes it's frustrating when Miami gets eliminated from the playoffs, or playoff contention, but again, life goes on.  You still go to work the next day, and you carry on your normal routine.  Just remember that unless you obtain a front office position for Miami, and God bless you if you do, because that would be amazing, but otherwise remember that it's out of your control....c'ste la vie

Actually it's only been about the last 7 years. Prior to that the Dolphins were a model of consistency, always seemingly in the hunt for a playoff spot and that could be why it's been so frustating watching them the last 7 years. You do have to go back to the 70's to when they were a dynasty, but I don't think you can say they've been a disappointment for even a decade.
