am I the 1st one to post this pick?  I did a quick scan of the forum list and didn't see a heading for the 1st pick.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/fl-miami-dolphins-first-round-draft-pick-0429,0,6760849.story

what's everyone think?

I like helping out the OL, would still like to get a 2nd round pick in here.

Slight hijack because of the picture.....
It seemed like the big men, really embraced Roger Goodell this year....Perhaps a side bet of who could grunt the loudest? Cheesy

Sorry end hijack...

I would liked to have traded down and still got him for a better value...But I'm fine with the pick...

I'm OK with the pick.  I think that linemen picks are hard to bust on.  I didn't want to get an RB, and it seemed like the best QBs were gone.  Center is an important, unglorified position.

^^ agreed..Tim Ruddy was the last time I was OK with anyone as Miami's center..this was the best pick..I understand it's not a sexy pick, but as I mentioned before, it's been a LONG time since there was anything to feel good about from the center position in Miami

I think it's a smart, safe pick.  I was afraid that the current coaching staff and front office might do something very short sighted, since they need to win and win now.  This pick shows patience and builds for the future.  I don't think it's ever a mistake to draft quality on the offensive and defensive lines.

Miami has had 2 Centers go in the hall of fame. A strong center position is a tradition for the Dolphins, and with Jake Long on the left of that line, this is an excellent choice. You can really make up for a lot of RB, FB, and some QB talent with a superior OL (Look at Denver in the 90's and after the Elway era).

miami should go all out with leather helmets next year. that is the era they are building a team to compete in.

While I would agree with that sentiment based on the offensive philosophy, I don't think this pick is any reflection of that. Offensive linemen are always a need, whether it be for a wide open throw the ball downfield offense or a three yards and a cloud of dust offense.

Another way to look at the OL pick is that the top teams last year were the ones with the most sacks. Want to beat those guys? Get a good O-line.

^^ exactly.... Bottom line:  If you don't have a solid offensive line, you don't have anything

this pick is certainly reflective of that given they are totally devoid of skill players on the offensive side of the ball.

they have no rb's... their qb acts like the endzone is cryptonite, and likes to complete passes to the other team.

this team would be real contenders back when greise was throwing 7 passes in super bowl VIII.

uh, the steelers offensive line last year was pretty putrid.

the packers, u see the hits aaron rodgers was taking last year?

this is heading into the 2011-2012 nfl football season, not back when the dolphins actually won a couple of lombardi's. in today's nfl, if you don't have a damn good nfl quarterback you don't have anything.

Look at some of the bigger upsets... look at what has worked against the Patriots. Getting after the quarterback. Do you think it's a coincidence that round 1 had a HUGE number of pass-rushers? How do you protect yourself from that?

You can't *just* copy in the NFL. That'll leave you in catch-up mode forever. Teams have seen that pass rushing is the way to beat some of the great teams and everyone is beefing up their pass-rush. If you want to win, you need to think one step ahead and realize that -- and get some protection.

Granted, a good quarterback is a very big piece and something the Dolphins don't have right now. I'm still hopeful Henne will step up, but he's running out of chances.
