Me and the wife are going to embark on our long awaited boat trip around the state of Florida.  We're sailing down to the Keys this weekend to stay at my place there.  Then we're going to sail up the east coast to St. Augustine, Jacksonville and Fernandina Beach.   This is something I've always wanted to do, and now that I'm done teaching until late August when the fall semester starts, I have the time to do it.  For the next 45 days, it'll be just me, the love of my life, and the sea, although we will definitely do some shopping/sightseeing in each city.

I'm only going to be online sporadically during this time.  I will have my laptop available but internet service is spotty out on the water.  Everyone pray that we don't get hit by any hurricanes during this time.

You probably won't make it that far by then, but I'll be in St Augustine from July 9-16.

Nope.  Leaving June 25 and coming back August 10 (45 days)

We might.  Not sure what our itinerary is at this point.  All I know is we're spending 4th of July weekend in the Keys and heading up the east coast July 5.  We could very well make it there during that time.

Are there pirates in Florida?

There have been Buccaneers spotted around Tampa.

I have heard stories of pirates off the coast of the keys, but I don't believe it.

^^^^

I've heard the stories as well but I haven't seen anything.  When I sail around Florida, I make sure the shoreline is within sight.  Additionally, I have stuff on my boat that I can use to defend myself should I run into trouble.

Update, I'm anchored at Port Canaveral as we speak, hoping that I will get to witness history with the final space shuttle launching ever.  However, reports are that they will scrub the launch due to bad weather expected in the area tomorrow.  If that is the case, I will be moving on.

It launched! Did you see it?

I'm incredibly jealous.

I don't understand the fascination with that thing. I remember as a kid we watched the very first launch, but other than that I have had no desire to watch on TV much less go to see it in person. Maybe it is a Florida thing. My neighbors run outside to catch a glimpse at them, but I really don't care.

I am not sure if I would want to watch two launches live.  But if I was in Florida for one of them I would make a point to watch it.
