Okay, I understand week 16 the team is 4-10 and playing some non divisional team why a black out would occur.

Week 1.  Monday Night game.  Divisional Rival.  And 3000 tickets are available.

Seriously?

I believe that's wrong. I think Miami has sold out Monday's game.  Week 2 on the other hand I believe is in danger of being blacked out.

I would think there would be enough traveling Patriots fans to fill the seats.  Monday Night Football isn't what it used to be, and probably hurts sales more than helps them.  With the addition of Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday Night games Monday Night just doesn't have that special something.

Factor in spending habits also. I am noticing people are not spending money again. I've noticed less people in stores, restaurants, bars, & pool halls. It is just expected that they are going to be holding back on game tickets right now as well.

The Dolphins aren't doing a good job in the advertising / sales division of their business.

- They do not have attractive offers.
- They do not have competitive offers.
- They are not customer-centric (not loyal to long-time customers).
- They are no-where to be found in any media, until this week (a total shame).
- Their ticket prices are ridiculous for a team that won 1 home game all year last year.
- They are getting killed by the Florida Panthers (yes the NHL team) in terms of advertising, campaigning, and marketing. I know more about the Florida Panthers and their deals / ticket prices than I do about the Miami Dolphins, and that's sad.
- The rare time that I do hear advertising about the Dolphins, it's promoting the fact that they are the only undefeated team in Sports history and that they have the all-time winningest percentage of MNF games where the temperature is between 80-85 degrees under a coach who has won more than 200 career games. In short, no-one gives a flying fuck about that any longer.

Right now in South Florida it's the Florida Panthers that are dominating the advertising / marketing venue. Whether that is turning into sales, I have no idea, but at least they are trying.

The Panthers have been pushing VERY hard this offseason, and I think its paying off for them.

As for the Dolphins, it will not be blacked out because (a) your article is old (b) Profootball talk prints lies and (c) the TV station will buy up the last few tickets, if any.

It also helps the Panthers that tickets cost, what, $20?

For the cheapies, yes.  But they have others that are a lot more.

Besides, you can get into a Marlins game for $12 and no one goes to those either.

Wanna sell tickets in Miami?  You gotta win games.

I occasionally see a deal, but for the most part, you're right.  Maybe it's cheap compared to the rest of the league, but for my money, it's hard to shell out money to go to Fins games.  They are costly.

I totally agree here.  As a season ticket holder, I felt like I wasn't valued.  It was like they were doing me a favor to let me buy their tickets.  They increased prices and pushed me out of my seats in a way that made me feel unimportant.  I've not had season tickets since and I've been fine with it.

I will defend this.  With the season being in question, and unsure how many seats would sell on their own, they were probably just unsure if it would be effective....trying to save some money.  I have seen some deals come through my email through affiliates like Duffy's.

I don't think that we can expect ticket prices to change based on how good the team is from year to year.  It sucks that we didn't win at home, but those are the risks.

Football sells itself more than hockey does, down here.  If the Dolphins are good, the stadium will fill up.  If they suck, it won't.  You probably get a lot less for your dollar with the Dolphins, than with the Panthers.

This is total bullshit.  The only time I ever hear about the 72 team is when you bring it up, or sometimes on a telecast, where they have some old guy in the booth talking about Shula.  I never see it in their marketing or by anyone remotely relevant.  This is a total straw man argument.

^ I wish I could remember to record TV spots and will try to bust out my iPhone voice recorder app the next time I hear a Radio spot that is like this. I guarantee you that they have done this recently (within the last 3 years at least if not last season to be exact).

And I have no idea what a "Straw Man" argument is Smiley

A "straw man" argument is when you argue a point that your opposition isn't making.  So, you're arguing against the 1972 team, but nobody is arguing for them.  ...at least I haven't seen it.

This is EXACTLY true.

The Fins pull that off Monday night, and the Texans game will sell out by Tuesday morning

More from the Dolphin fans are pathetic file.

I would think there would be enough traveling Patriots fans to fill the seats.

Apparently Saprano thinks there will be.

For the first time (possibly by any team ever) the Dolphins offense has practicing with noise (something most teams do in anticipation of away games) because he expect the noise of Patriots fans to be enough to make running the offense difficult.
