http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/09/07/rumor-peyton-manning-done-for-the-year/

This article says that there's a rumor that Manning has had a surgery on his lower back this week and he might be done for the season.

If this is true, wow!

I don't know.  The Colts aren't saying anything.  That's usually a sign something really bad happened when the team won't talk about an injured player.

For some teams, for some teams it is standard operation procedure.

Great example of why I hate ProFootballTalk:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/09/08/manning-undergoes-cervical-fusion-surgery-out-2-3-months/

they clearly say "out 2-3 months" but no one is reporting a timetable - not even the ESPN story they link to as a source.  In fact in their own article they say "A timeline to return is just a guess."  But they put this stuff in their headline like they're breaking a story, and people take it as fact.

ProFootballTalk is a bunch of liars who make up headlines to get clicks.  I hate them.

Manning had another neck surgery and could possibly be out for the season.

Even if he is out a month or so their season is over. That is a 5 win team without Manning and they will struggle to get 5 wins. They are lucky they play Jax twice and lets leave it at that.

This sounds similar to the Marino neck injury he had late in his career. Which took away his velocity essentially and had Dan throwing dead duck passes. Manning probably has less than 5 years left in his career. If he is OUT of the year and the Colts get a Top 3 or 5 pick though, they will draft a QB like Barkley or Luck to have waiting in the wings.

If there is a year where you have to go without Manning and stink, the Colts got lucky and got the right year. It's the ONLY silver lining with this news cause that team sucks without him.

You would think someone in the Colts organization would have considered this before they signed him to a record contract.  His is not an injury like Brady in 2008 that came out of the blue during the game.  If Manning is hurt now he was hurt when they signed the contract.

Manning passed a team physical before returning to practice, so clearly the medical staff wasn't particularly concerned.

think the Colts wouldn't have signed him if they knew he was injured? You don't think one of any of the other 31 teams would have paid the same money even with knowledge of his injury? Hell some teams would have paid more.
