Chris Petersen - Boise State Head Coach

He's relatively young, hungry, ballsy, and exciting.  Go get him, let him choose all of his assistants, either from his existing pool at Boise and from the people we have here.  I would ideally like a combination of both.

Hire a GM seperately (perhaps after consulting Petersen) that fits the style of the team that Petersen wants to create.

I suppose I should've said "within reason" or "available".  Zombie Lombardi is also not eligible.

Well, then my #2 choice would be Jeff Fisher. I rate him just a hair higher on my wish list than Cowher or Gruden.

I do like the ballsy call on the Boise State coach though...

I really don't like Cowher.  I think that he's from an old-school brand of football that can't win in today's NFL.  I think he left the game at the perfect time.

Running the ball and playing defense isn't enough, IMO, anymore, with all the rule changes that lend themselves to explosive offensives over winning games 20-17.

On top of that, Cowher has already done this and I don't think that there's any chance that he'll be a "legacy" coach with us, being around for 10 years+.  He's already been there and wouldn't have patience if things got bad.

Joe Philbin.  Packers offensive coordinator.  Look at what he has done with Aaron Rodgers.  Imagine him doing the same thing with Andrew Luck.

I wonder if he has any relation to Regis?

I don't think you can build your season around Luck.  We probably won't get him.

In terms of the re-tread coaches, I think that Fisher is my favorite.  I'd still rather go in a fresh direction, however.

Gruden would be my favorite among those with NFL head coaching experience.

As for getting someone to stay around for 10+ years, yeah, that would be great, but it takes a certain kind of franchise and we're just not it. Not at this point, anyway. Granted, anyone might be stay for along time if there was constant and massive success...

As for college coaches, I just don't know enough about them to have any real idea. I am convinced, however, that if we go the college route, we should expect a longer learning curve.

Anybody given any thought to another Shula coaching the Dolphins? I don't really know much about him.

I don't know... he had a shot at OC in the NFL and college head coach, but he's back at quarterbacks coach now. I don't know the guy, but that doesn't look good.

Yes.  Let it go.  Leave Dan Marino, Shula, and the rest behind.

Go in a new direction with new people.

Ask anyone at the University of Alabama if they would like him back ... no way in hell. He seems like a nice guy but not a good enough head coach and if he couldn't cut it in the NCAA then the NFL is not for him (as a HC anyway). Of course they got Nick Satan and have been successful ... all he did here was crap all over the team.

I want an offensive minded coach with NFL experience ... so preferrably one of the current OCs on a team with a good offense (maybe one of his current assistants to be the OC). Wouldnt mind keeping our current DC but we need to get back to playing D like we used to. Then we need a GM who will get them the players they need and not retreads from just one team. Build through the draft, augment with FA ... that requires Ross to fess up the scratch too.
