Hey EKnight,

I didn't want to sidetrack the other thread, but I saw you say that you were a powerlifter at one point and could lift some ungodly amount of weight, while you, yourself weren't heavy.

Tell me more about that.  What got you into it?  Do you still do it?

Do you have a picture of yourself around that time?

Hey thanks for asking. Most of what you're asking about including pics is on my personal training page but since I am not sure if I am allowed to link it, I cut and pasted some of the info. At the age of twenty-three, I started weight training, and began competing as a bodybuilder two years later. I chose to pursue competitive powerlifting instead, so that I could balance my passion for lifting fitness with my goal to remain drug-free. Simply put, too few bodybuilding federations drug test for there to be a level playing field. In 2002, I won my first national bench press title, competing in the USAPL 132 pound class. I continued competing for another 8 years, including two more APF/AAPF national titles in 2005 and 2006, benching a personal best 420 pounds at a body weight of 143 pounds. I have a couple of pics from magazines I appeared in but I'd have to scan them to get them here. Honestly, they're not much to look at, but of you really want to see them I'll scan and post them. -EK

Holy freaking crap.  I'm in the 500lb squat club and I thought that act would be the end of me.  And I was probably around 229 at the time.  423.  Bench.  At 143?

Again...holy.freaking.crap.

Nah only 420. Don't give me three pounds I didn't earn, lol. I just missed 430 at that same meet. Locked it out, but raised my butt. And bro, a 500+ pound squat is insane. That's impressive. -EK

Yeah, I'd like to see a pic.  I'm a small guy, 5'10 - 145ish.  I can't imagine being able to lift anything near that....I'd have trouble benching 1/4 of that.

You must've been built, obviously.  How tall are you?

I'm all of 5'3". I can't figure out for the world of me how to attach a pic without it being from a website. How do I do that? -EK

Edit- Here's a link that has two pics on it. If this in violation of some rule, I apologize, mods, and you can remove it. -EK

I own the site.  You're cool.

Besides, you can link anything you want, so long as its on topic and proper credit is given.

The number one supplement? WOW....clearly school this term has put the site on the backburner....I'll update that this weekend, likely, but here's a hint- you probably already take it, and it has 12 letters! -EK

I'm a lot bigger in the shoulders, arms, chest, and thihgs now. The waist is about the same, but in that pic I was around 130 pounds. Now I'm ~170. -EK

It ain't no 420 at 143!  Wink  You know it, I know it...the board knows it!  Thanks, though!  I'm with Dave, hate to put you on the spot but would love to see pictures of you.

FYI, I can't imagine maxing out like that in perfect form!  I probably would have kicked my legs up and tried to help move the bar with my legs!  Smiley

Jesus, sorry, just saw the link now.

Well done, EK -- super Kudos.  I don't know if anyone who hasn't put in that type of work will ever understand what goes into it (diet, training, rest, etc).

I understand completely. That is why I haven't put in that kind of work.

When I graduated high school and ended my wrestling career I swore off what I considered extreme dieting. I may have gone too far the other way now.  Angry

I appreciate that a lot. It was an steep investment- I spent most of my post-high school years training and eating while my friends were partying. I also busted my ass in the gym, which is why I got a little testy in the other thread when Spider-Dan said I had no idea about being an athlete or something. -EK
