Now that both Ozzie and Buehrle are there.  Congrats to the Marlins. Both are very classy guys. Ozzie takes a lot of heat for speaking his mind, but Ozzie won't feed you any BS. He tells it like it is and some people don't like that.

I get the feeling that Ozzie is exactly what the Marlins need.  I think he'll be successful and create a national buzz about the team.

Don't you mean the Miami Marlins and not the Florida Marlins

I guess if that's what they are calling themselves now. Remember I'm not from Miami and I'm not a fan of the Marlins.  I'm from Illinois originally, live in Texas now and I'm a fan of the Chicago White Sox. Go Sox!

As a White Sox fan, what is your opinion of Ozzie as a Manager.  I have heard both sides - love and hate.  What do we have to look forward to here?

As a completely unbiased baseball fan (Rays guy here), I think Ozzie is one of the best managers out there purely from a media darling aspect....I also think he's a damn good manager baseball IQ wise as well, but his outgoing personality is a good thing for selling tickets.  It's sad that the Marlins have been a joke up until now, even with their championships, but what they are doing now is a giant step in the right direction.  If what they are doing now doesn't sell tickets, then nothing will and you have to own it up to a bad baseball market (believe me, I know...Tampa isn't that far behind, but we have our own reasons for bad attendance).

I think it will sell tickets.  I think people are already excited for baseball - in the middle of football season.  Unheard of.

I expect the Marlins to sell out games early on due to the buzz of the new stadium.  If those sell outs become wins as well, many people will come back.  Winning is king - just look at the Panthers.  First place in the East, and nearly selling out every Tuesday night game when, just last season, they couldn't get 10000 people in the stadium on a Tuesday night.

I think, with a few early wins, the Marlins will win back some fans, but there's still no combating the plethora of Yankees and Red Sox fans clogging up the fan base.

I love Ozzie. Ozzie is an old school type of manager.  Bunts. Steals. Hit and Run. Sacrifices. Take the extra base. Make the defense make the play. On defense, you better be able to handle your position. Pitchers should know how to get off the mound and play their position not just throw strikes. Catchers are the leader on the field and better be able to throw out runners at any base at any time.  Some call it small ball, but Ozzie has no problem with home runs as long as you can hit them. Don't be swinging for the fences if you don't have that kind of power. Go to the opposite field when they are pitching you away.

He'll protect his players. If you throw at one of ours, you WILL be hit. That's the way the game is played. If the ump tries to show up a player, Ozzie WILL be getting tossed, bank on it.

When they interview him, he'll tell you EXACTLY how he feels and he doesn't give a damn if that hurts your feelings. You're being paid to play baseball not be coddled. Players always know where they stand with Ozzie, he'll tell them when he's unhappy, but he'll be the first to congratulate them when they get to the dugout after a big play. He was a player himself and not really that long ago. He managed like he wanted to be managed. No BS. Just Baseball.

^^ sounds like the exact guy I'd like to be the manager of my team, but then why was he seemingly so maligned in Chicago?

He wasn't maligned in Chicago, in fact most loved Ozzie. He just didn't exactly see eye to eye with Senior Vice President and General Manager Ken Williams. They've had a couple of blowups over the last several years over various things from whom to acquire to not winning enough games to some off the field stuff. It's a long story and even involves Ozzie's kids. Would take too long to try to explain. Let's just say it was time for Ozzie and the White Sox to go their seperate ways. The White Sox don't wish Ozzie any ill will and I don't think even Ken Williams does, they just want to try someone new. They replaced Ozzie with a long time player for the White Sox and first time Manager Robin Ventura who is also loved in Chicago. We'll see how it works out.
