Yeah, I said it.

I'm not..not..NOT..saying that Matt Moore is the answer at QB, but he has played his way to deserving a chance to prove us wrong.

By the way, this whole post is based off of me being bored at work and surfing the web.  As per wikipedia:

On November 6 he became the first Miami quarterback since Chad Pennington in 2008 to throw three touchdown passes in a game, in their 31-3 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. He repeated that feat in week 11 blowing out the Bills 35-8 and had the highest QB rating of any game that week.

I get what you're thinking:  "That just proves Chad Henne sucks"  Valid.  However, it got me thinking just how many QB's have had 3 TD games in the post Marino era.  What I found was rather alarming.

Jay Fielder - 6 times in 62 games

Ray Lucas - 0 times in the 7 games he saw the field as a Dolphin

Brian Griese - 1 time.  10/27/2003 against the Chargers

A.J. Feeley - 1 time.  12/5/2004 against the Bills (he also threw 5 picks that game  Roll Eyes )

Sage Rosenfels - 0 times in 13 appearances as a Dolphin

Gus Frerotte - 0 times as the 2005 starting QB

Daunte Culpepper - 0 times as the dude we picked over Drew Brees

Joey Harrington - 2 times in 11 starts as the dude replacing the dude we picked over Brees

Trent Green - 0 times in 4 games in 2007

Cleo Lemon - 0 times in 16 games (8 starts) as a Miami Dolphin

John Beck - 0 times in 5 games played (4 starts)

Chad Pennington - 2 times in 20 starts as a Miami Dolphin

Tyler Thingpen - 0 times in 5 games of action.

Chad Henne - 0 times in 31 starts as a Dolphin

Pat White - .....he actually never completed a pass in the NFL.  I'm serious.  Google it if you don't believe/remember.

Matt Moore has already done this 3 times this year.  He's out performed almost every QB we've seen since Marino, why cast him off because he isn't a household name?  I'm just sayin, he has a 2 year contract for a reason. I'll take consistency over a sexy name any day of the week.

I agree.  Nothing surprising here.  The dude played with balls and wasn't afraid to attack opponents.  Just see how he went after Revis with no fear in both games.

Couldn't agree with you more. No pun intended.

He deserves to start in 2012, if and only if he can beat out whoever the Dolphins bring in.

Agreed.

Edit:  Changing the title of this thread so it's not assumed the job is handed to him.  Whether it's a rookie, or a FA signing, Moore earned his shot to do it again.

I would start him over Henne, but only have him be the starter if all other QB plans fail. I don't want them to give Matt Flynn $80 Million, but I do want them to make every effort possible to draft a franchise QB. If they can't trade up without sacrificing too much, then go with Moore.

Just, don't expect more than 9 wins.

There's only 1 veteran QB I would be intersted in. Peyton Manning.

I think Moore has earned the right to play as a starter.  And predict he has not started his last game.  If Miami does draft a QB in the first round an benches Moore, in 2013 another team will pick him up.

Moore will be the starter going into preseason. Whoever is the starter at week 1 of the regular season will have earned it. I expect to see Moore and whoever else we have get to start 1 preseason game with the first stringers.

Moore led the Dolphins to the third-most plus 25-yard pass plays in the AFC (38) only behind San Diego (39) and the New England Patriots with 40. Not sure how many of those came after he started, but that speaks volumes of both his ability and the changes we made to the offense as a whole over the last 2/3 of the season. If given the choice (ie, trading away draft picks or investing most of the offseason in one player) between upgrading significantly at QB, or upgrading several other areas, I'd take the other areas and see what Moore can do. I think the team overall has too many holes to fill to put all the eggs in one basket when Moore seemed like a good, solid player. -EK

^^ It might surprise you that Henne had 12 and Moore had 25. Losman had 1.

And who was the favorite target?

Marshall: 16
Hartline: 7
Fasano: 6
Clay: 4
Bess: 3
Bush: 2

And who was the favorite defense?

New England: 10
Buffalo: 5
Dallas: 4
Cleveland: 3
Houston: 3
Kansas City: 3
Oakland: 3
Washington: 3
Denver: 1
New York Jets: 1
Philadelphia: 1
San Diego: 1

By the way if you are wondering how I'm getting these stats, I have kept a spreadsheet of the play by play of every Dolphins game for the last 2 years. Lots of wonderful data to look at. If you would like a copy of the spreadsheet, send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy.

That is nice in theory, but it is not how reality works.

If the Dolphins draft a QB in the first round (particularly if they trade up) than that QB will have to be barely above horrible to win the starting role over Moore.  It won't be a true compitition.

That sounds like a lot of work. Thanks for the effort and providing the info garnered from that.
