Gary was my favorite player growing up. He was a great player and from the stories I have heard a good human. RIP Gary.

I really liked him too.

"I am deeply saddened to tell you all that my precious dad went to be with Jesus today at 4:10 p.m. This is the most difficult thing I have ever had to write in my entire life but I wanted you all to know," Carter's daughter, Kimmy Bloemers, wrote on the family website.

"He is in heaven and has reunited with his mom and dad. I believe with all my heart that dad had a STANDING OVATION as he walked through the gates of heaven to be with Jesus," Bloemers wrote.

Have a blast Gary!!!

Grew up (still am) a Braves fan. But how could anybody root against a class act like Gary Carter? RIP Gary.

Agree with the devil...Gary Carter was definitely a class act. I had to stop cheering for him when he went to the Mets, but loved him as an Expo early in his career.

Die Hard Mets fan here.  I was born in 1986 so I was never too familiar with Carter during his playing years.  However, as I grew, the more I learned and the more I appreciated everything he brought to the table as a player and as a professional.  One of the greatest catchers/players/and all around human beings was taken far too early.
I'll be attending the Mets home opener this year, I can only hope Mets mgmt does the right thing (for once) and gives him a proper ceremony and retire #8.

Here's lookin at you, kid.   RIP

He was a great catcher and a class act.  One thing that always stuck out in my mind about him was when the IRS was going around busting members of the 1986 Mets for failing to report income from card show appearances, they called him in for an audit.  He proceeded to spend over $25,000 in accountant and attorney fees to produce tax forms and receipts from his card show appearances, and as a result, the IRS learned he was honest with his taxes as he was in nearly every other area of his life.
