Though I think you're always better when you add a talented player, I don't think Allen really changes the landscape of the team.  He's essentially a better version of James Jones -- talented long-range shooter, defensively weak, and not able to do much with a dribble.

I don't know how he fits in to the lineup...does he start, simply because he's a big name?  Because otherwise, I don't see who he takes minutes from.  The HEAT play a lot of different lineups during the season, so I have no doubt that he's a good addition -- I assume he'll take a little bit from the roles of Miller and Battier and a whole lot from James Jones.

He's also not what he used to be.

All it does is make Celtics fans hate the Heat even more, especially Ray Allen.

I wonder if Ray Allen : Boston :: LeBron : Cleveland, at least on a national scale.  Somehow I suspect that this won't get nearly as much press.

You're suspicions are accurate.  Ray Allen was not a big name free agent, was not a two time MVP award winner, and did not announce his decision on ESPN.

The Celtics just signed a replacement for Ray Allen in Jason Terry.  What did you expect him to do?

What's funny is the Heat are paying him less than the Celtics would have. Yet, people are mad for him leaving. So, I guess you're supposed to play for the most amount offered. Especially if your old team offers it. It just shows how badly he wanted out of Boston. Good luck, Ray.

He'll have a bigger role in Miami than in Boston.  And word has it that he didn't get along with Rondo.

Your, not you're.  Sorry, this drives me as crazy as "I hope Miami doesn't loose tomorrow night to the Jets."

Ray Allen, when healthy, is still a deadly shooter and brings amazing balance and leadership to any team - hence why Boston was willing to blow a mid level exception on him.  He wasn't part of Boston's "big three" for appearances only.

Every signing doesn't need to be on the scale of James.

Grammar nazi Wink. I agree this is nowhere near the scale of craziness of Lebron. Howard though is trying to get there.

It's really simple.  He (Brian) was wondering why this didn't get as much press.  It's pretty obvious why.

Word is, Grant Hill is considering the Heat along with the Thunder.  It's amazing how these washed up vets will play for practically the vet minimum so they can get a ring.

If you're going to be coming off the bench, might as well do it on a winner.

No, I know why it didn't get as much press.  But I also know everyone keeps pointing out that LeBron held an ESPN special to announce his decision.  However, did you see how many people were sticking microphones in his face?  And he reportedly donated the proceeds from the special to charity.

Point is, Cleveland was SO mad at LeBron, and most of them still are.  Complete with the mayor holding a ceremony to remove the LeBron poster off the side of some building.  Why aren't Boston fans equally mad at Ray Allen?
